About The Position

Provides direct care to residents in the facility, primarily for their activities of daily living, assistance with therapeutic activities programs, restorative programs, and documentation as required by the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Attend 12 in-service hours annually to include in-services on Infection Control, Universal Precautions, Fire and Safety.
  • Maintain CNA Certification status with Tennessee Nurse Aide Registry every two (2) years.
  • Report to assigned unit at scheduled time to get report from unit nurse.
  • Give basic patient care: bathing, mouth care, shampooing and grooming of hair, clean and file nails requested and assist as needed with personal hygiene.
  • Maintain care and neatness of resident units: bed making, personal clothing, and bedside table.
  • Maintain and chart daily care records accurately.
  • Responsible for weights, vital signs, Intake and Outputs, as assigned.
  • Pass and set up food trays; feed/assist residents who cannot feed themselves.
  • Identify resident's personal items with permanent marking pen; bag Health Center laundry and use Health Center hamper; for families that do the resident's laundry, laundry to be left in room or placed in a private hamper marked accordingly.
  • Assist residents to activities to the extent time and conditions warrant.
  • Answer call bells promptly and courteously - check that call bell is fastened within reach for each resident.
  • Shave male residents daily.
  • Pass fresh ice/tap water each shift.
  • Notify medical record office if resident does not have arm band I.D.
  • Routine rounds to ensure comfort by proper turning, positioning, and drying every two (2) hours - report any skin problems to unit nurse.
  • Be observant - inform nurse supervisor of any significant changes in the resident's condition.
  • Be knowledgeable of and practice: Proper bed positioning, Proper transfer techniques (To chair, To wheelchair, With mechanical lift, Using Gait belt), Range of motion exercise, Training in self care, Recognition and care of decubitus ulcers.
  • Work closely with team members to foster self-respect and feelings of self-worth in resident.
  • Consistently presents a professional appearance. Wears neat clean uniform, clean shoes, name tag, no excessive jewelry, and short, clean fingernails.
  • Report for work on time, as scheduled.
