About The Position

The C.N.A./Ward Clerk works under the direct supervision of the departmental Registered Nurses providing basic nursing care to surgical patients. All nursing care provided will be within the scope of C.N.A. certification and in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. Always provides professional efficient customer service to all patients, guests, co-workers, and physicians’ offices via telephone, email and fax communication within the Ward Clerk role. Responsible for carrying out the mission, vision and quality commitment of Good Shepherd Health Care System.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • CNA License
  • Basic life support certificate.
  • No prior experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience as a ward clerk/ CNA.
  • Proficient in Microsoft word, excel, and EHR (EPIC).
  • Prior experience in customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the patient with ADLs such as dressing, toileting (including using bedpans, urinals, and commodes), assist with ambulation
  • Assisting the patient with personal hygiene as needed such as peri-care and catheter care.
  • Assisting patient with safe transferring.
  • Transferring to and from department.
  • Perform surgical prep such as clipping, nasal swabs, and applications of SCD’s
  • Collects and labels specimens appropriately.
  • Measuring and recording blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, and oxygen status
  • Ensure patient safety including but not limited to proper transferring techniques and following infection prevention procedures.
  • Meeting the appropriate documentation guidelines in the EMR.
  • Professionally Communicates with patients and families.
  • Reporting significant changes in patients’ conditions to appropriate nursing staff.
  • Maintain and update patients records and charts.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Process surgical admissions and discharges in the system
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Maintain and organized nursing station.
  • Answer telephones and direct calls appropriately.
  • Relay messages between staff, physicians, departments, and families.
  • Notify surgical teams of updates, consults, or urgent changes.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
