Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse in charge of the team and/or unit. Demonstrates competency in providing basic nursing care that meets psychosocial and physical needs, meeting communication needs of patients, and performing other duties as assigned within the nursing assistant’s scope of practice. Responsibilities include assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, performing basic patient care responsibilities considering age-specific needs, notifying appropriate staff of observed changes in patient status or pain complaints, and assisting with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance. The role requires effective communication with team leaders, co-workers, and physicians, consulting with other departments for an interdisciplinary approach, and providing care appropriate to the patient's condition and age. The position emphasizes patient safety, supporting a culture of safety and quality, and demonstrating flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations. Responds to patient emergencies and distressful situations, treats patients and families with respect and dignity, involves patients and families in care planning, and maintains good working relationships. Documentation standards and policies are met within the shift, and equipment is managed safely. The role involves coordinating and supervising patient care under the direct supervision of an RN and demonstrating knowledge of disease entities.
