About The Position

This position works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director, providing personal care to patients and maintaining their environment. The role involves performing validated tasks such as simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral IV removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of age-appropriate patient care, principles of growth and development, and maintain a safe work environment. This role also requires proficiency in using technology systems for patient data collection into EMR, following the plan of care, accurately completing documentation, ensuring resource availability, maintaining a clean and orderly work environment, and assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.

Requirements

  • Must meet at least one of these requirements: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Virginia Department of Health Professions Upon Hire OR EMT-B (Basic), Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Upon Hire OR Medical Assistant Program Graduate Upon Hire OR Currently enrolled in LPN or RN Nursing diploma or degree program with 80 hours completed Upon Hire.
  • BLS required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care of the patients and their environment.
  • Perform simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration).
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Perform peripheral INT removal.
  • Perform basic phlebotomy.
  • Perform extremity splinting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN.
  • Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintain clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be able to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.
