The Patient Care Technician/Certified Nursing Assistant (PCT/CNA) provides appropriate safe basic care to patients which includes taking vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living, specimen collection, and observation of patients for physical/emotional changes. Other duties include recording pertinent information in patient charts, communicating with other Patient Care Team members to ensure continuity of care, and may function in a role providing constant supervision to patients as needed. Duties may vary according to department expectations and needs. This position requires working every 5 out of 6 weekends. The unit is a 43-bed unit that treats patients who need acute care due to a stable injury such as a fall with a broken bone, car accident with fracture, etc. The unit also serves and cares for patients who have an elective surgery such as a hip replacement, spinal fusion, shoulder repair, or knee replacement. Patients on the unit may have limitations with mobility requiring extra assistance with the use of mobility aids such as walker, hoyer lift, and quick move.
