About The Position

The Nursing Assistant serves as caregiver to the patient during the scheduled work period. The NA provides patient-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This role involves a variety of patient care tasks, documentation, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. Additionally, reception duties are included, such as answering phones, providing directions, assisting physicians with charts, transcribing orders, assembling charts, and contacting physician offices. The position requires knowledge of department supplies and equipment, and the ability to maintain and restock patient work rooms. Strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to handle stress are essential.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and registration with the Minnesota Board of Nursing Assistant Registry is preferred.
  • If renewal or pending certification is needed upon hire date, incumbent must obtain within 30 days.
  • Strong communication skills, including English usage, to collaborate with other health care team members.
  • Must be organized and have the ability to prioritize work.
  • Must know medical terminology.
  • Requires ability to do detailed work correctly, function under and handle stress.
  • Expected to provide quality customer service.
  • Must know how to use organization policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities; bathing, grooming, toileting, eating, meal preparation and dining needs, emotional and spiritual needs.
  • Administer delegated tasks and treatments.
  • Record vital statistics and other basic health information.
  • Assist patients in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment if needed.
  • Collect non-invasive biological specimens from patients as needed.
  • Perform clerical work related to scheduling and documenting patient healthcare.
  • Prepare patient treatment areas for use; prepare and clean medical equipment; dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with standards and policy.
  • Clean patient living areas or treatment rooms.
  • Repositioning, transporting and ambulating patients, providing patient hygiene and skin care needs, donning and doffing clothing, assisting patients with meals, recording intake and output, the collection of routine lab specimens, obtaining vital signs weights.
  • Assisting patients with treatments and provides simple dressing changes when directed by the RN.
  • Utilize infection control practices including use of Standard Precautions for all patient contracts.
  • Maintain a clean and safe patient and work environment.
  • Observe and promptly report changes in mentation, health status and safety to the Registered Nurse.
  • Assume professional accountability, utilize established policy and procedure to assist the RN to implement and modify any individualized plan of care.
  • Utilize age-related patient care protocol to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintain and demonstrate clinical competence through timely completion of required competencies and educational offerings.
  • Perform reception duties including answering phones, providing family and visitor directions, helping physicians find chart reports, transcribing physician orders, assembling patient charts, and calling physician offices for consult and patient appointments.
  • Maintain and restock patient work rooms.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $16.22 - $22.08
