About The Position

Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise is looking to hire a Certified Nursing Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Nurse Apprentice to join their nursing team in Surgical Prep and Recovery. This role involves supporting clinical staff by performing clerical, receptionist, and patient service coordination duties. The position also includes performing nursing care services under the supervision of a licensed nurse, ensuring accurate documentation of services and supplies, and facilitating customer service with patients and families. Additionally, the role may involve acting as a Unit Clerk, which includes managing patient medical records, transcribing physician orders, processing tests and procedures, ordering supplies, and adhering to infection control standards and the Idaho Nursing Practice Act. The role may also involve acting as a Patient Visual Monitor, requiring constant visual observation of patients, verbal redirection, summoning nursing staff when assistance is needed, documenting observations, and participating in patient hand-offs and reporting of safety issues. Training as a cardiac monitoring technician may also be available.

Requirements

  • Certified Nursing Assistant Certification issued by the State of Idaho OR maintain a current Nurse Apprentice application on file with the Idaho State Board of Nursing or complete the Trinity Health Nursing Assistant Program required
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric as applicable).

Nice To Haves

  • Six months Certified Nursing Assistant experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support clinical staff at the unit level by performing clerical, receptionist and patient service coordination.
  • Perform various nursing care services and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients, as those of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) under the direction and supervision of the licensed nurse.
  • Ensure the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
  • Provide direct high quality service to Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) to assist in patient care activities.
  • Facilitate high quality customer service, communicating clearly with patients and families.
  • Remove non controlled medications from deliver points and hands directly to RN or places in secure location.
  • Prepare, compile, and maintain the patient’s medical record on the nursing unit from admission through discharge on a daily basis.
  • Transcribe physicians’ orders accurately.
  • Process tests and procedures as ordered by the physician, then receive results of tests and procedures and report them to the patient caregiver.
  • Notify physicians of admissions or consultations, as directed.
  • Order routine supplies weekly, and other supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Demonstrate utilization of proper infection control standards and practices.
  • Demonstrate utilization of proper body mechanics for self and patient.
  • Comply with the organization’s standards of care and Idaho Nursing Practice Act.
  • Maintain visual observation at all times.
  • Verbally redirect patients in person or over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room.
  • Immediately summon nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
  • Document every 15-30 minutes, as appropriate, on Observation Flow Sheet.
  • Participate in handing off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment.
  • Seek help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Participate in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
  • Assure patient environment safety.
  • Seek assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and report findings to Charge Nurse.
  • May be trained as cardiac monitoring technician based on operational needs/approvals.
