The CNA - Medical Unit position assists the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients on the Medical Unit. This role involves direct patient care, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and assisting with mobility. The CNA will also be responsible for monitoring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights. Accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is essential. The position requires participation in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes, as well as ensuring patient comfort and safety by keeping the call light within reach and responding promptly. The role also includes specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and maintaining stock for the nursing area. Performing patient positioning and transporting duties, assisting with nutritional needs, and maintaining skin integrity are key responsibilities. Depending on unit requirements and under RN direction, tasks like IV removal, post-mortem care, and bladder scans may be required. Adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and aseptic techniques, is critical. The CNA must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development.
