About The Position

This position is for a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a Medical/Surgical unit, working night shifts. The role involves providing direct patient care, monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and maintaining a safe and clean patient environment. The CNA will work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals, adhering to hospital policies and procedures, and contributing to a team-oriented environment focused on patient satisfaction and safety.

Requirements

  • Completion of CNA course with valid certificate.
  • Valid Iowa C.N.A certification.
  • BLS required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Answers call lights to determine patient needs and responds to patient questions or alerts the nurse.
  • Performs a.m. and p.m. cares, including baths, dressing/undressing, oral care, and personal hygiene.
  • Prepares patients for meals, assists with meals, passes and collects trays, and feeds patients needing assistance.
  • Passes nourishments between meals.
  • Administers bedpans, urinals, and assists patients to commode or bathroom.
  • Ambulates patients, gives back rubs, performs exercises, repositions patients, and assists patients in/out of chairs and wheelchairs.
  • Transports patients to different areas.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration rate, intake/output, and weights as directed.
  • Reports all unusual conditions or reactions to the nurse in charge.
  • Keeps patient rooms neat, changes linens, runs errands, and directs visitors.
  • Assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
  • Actively participates in team-oriented decision making and is a flexible team player.
  • Focuses on high customer satisfaction, aiming to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Performs other duties as directed by proper authority.
  • Assists in completion of hourly rounding and every two-hour safety rounds.
  • May be required to perform Unit Clerk duties.
  • Adheres to standard, goals, and procedures relating to the Compliance Program and reports any suspected violations.
  • Adheres to hospital and department policies, procedures, objectives, safety, environmental, infection control, and quality improvement.
  • Maintains all required records, reports, and statistics.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Follows all hospital safety standards and participates in safety training.
