The Tucson VA Medical Center is a comprehensive healthcare facility offering a range of primary and several specialty services to veterans. Operating 24/7 throughout the week, the center ensures accessibility and convenience for veterans. Beneficiary travel benefits, including transportation and lodging for families, are available for all patients. The CNA serves as a member of the nursing staff and carries out routine nursing care and other personal services to assigned patients on any ward or tour assigned. Performs a range of personal nursing care which includes activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing, lifting, and turning patients, providing oral, nail, hair related hygiene care, routine foley, oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal, and performing preventive, rehabilitative, application of braces, prosthetic devices, utilizes equipment to promote veteran self-care i.e., lift equipment, Hydro sounds tubs. Documents all care provided in the appropriate clinical records. Observes significant conditions, both physical and emotional, that are relevant to the health status of the patient. The CNA performs a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking vital signs, collecting, and transporting specimens, and preparing and escorting patients for discharge, tests, examinations, treatments and/or surgery per established procedures. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment; observes all policies pertaining to universal precautions. Provides for safety needs of patients by maintaining a clean and safe environment. Accompanies patients on diagnostic or therapeutic trips assuming responsibility for basic decisions within the scope of a Certified Nursing Assistant while away from nursing units. The CNA initiates emergency measures to control disruptive or violent behavior. Documents all relevant information in the clinical record.
