About The Position

The Emergency Department at ChristianaCare Union Hospital is seeking a Full Time Sr. CNA to work Full Time 36 hours per Week/72 bi-weekly, Evening/Midnight 12 hour shift from 7:00pm - 7:00am for the Emergency Department Unit at Cecil Campus - Union Hospital. This role involves providing care appropriate to patients in various stages of development, responding to patient needs, and performing assigned nursing duties for patient comfort and well-being. The position also includes performing and recording vital signs, Accu-checks, bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobilizing patients, as well as performing finger sticks, point of care instrumentation, EKGs, and potentially phlebotomy venipuncture. Additionally, the role involves order entry into Meditech, communicating with patients and staff, documenting in the electronic medical record, and performing Unit Clerk duties such as answering phones, entering charges, coordinating transport, and managing supplies. The position requires completing in-service education and adhering to safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Previous patient care experience including taking vital signs
  • Nursing student who has successfully completed clinical hours or completion of a Certified Nursing
  • Licensed CNA in the state of Maryland or other US state preferred.
  • Licensed CNA's are required to perform provision of nursing assistant care within scope of practice including IV insertions
  • BLS Certification required.
  • Licensed CNA in the state of Maryland/Obtain Maryland License prior to start date to practice IV insertions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned nursing duties for the comfort and well-being of patients.
  • Responds to patient crisis and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.
  • Performs and accurately records vital signs, Accu-checks, bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobilizing patients.
  • Performs successful finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
  • Performs defined procedures on point of care instrumentation and EKGs.
  • Following established policies and procedures, additional duties may include phlebotomy venipuncture.
  • Responds with promptness, compassion, and interest to needs of patients.
  • Order entry into Meditech.
  • Communicates to patients, employees, and physicians using courteous verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using required computer skills to document in the electronic medical record.
  • Performs Unit Clerk duties such as, answering phones, entering charges, calling provider consults, setting up patient transportation, assisting staff with clerical needs and audits and coordinates maintenance of unit supplies.
  • Scheduling and frequent contact with Provider offices.
  • Completes required in-service education.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
