About The Position

ChristianaCare, a healthcare organization with 1100 beds between two Magnet® recognized hospitals (Christiana and Wilmington) and the only Level 1 Trauma service on the East Coast corridor between Philadelphia and Baltimore, is seeking an Emergency Department CNA 2. This role is part-time, working 12 hours per week/24 bi-weekly, with a Day/Evening 12-hour shift from 11:00 am - 11:00 pm for the Emergency Department Unit at Cecil Campus - Union Hospital. The position requires rotating weekends and holidays as per department guidelines. The CNA II demonstrates skills and knowledge vital to deliver care appropriate to patients in various stages of development, performs assigned nursing duties for the comfort and well-being of patients, and responds to patient crisis, initiating interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifying the RN.

Requirements

  • Licensed CNA in the state of Maryland or other US state required.
  • Licensed CNA's are required to perform provision of nursing assistant care within scope of practice including IV insertions.
  • High school graduate or equivalent AND one or more of the below qualifications: Previous patient care experience including taking vital signs OR Nursing student who has successfully completed clinical hours or completion of a Certified Nursing Program.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • Licensed CNA in the state of Maryland/Obtain Maryland License prior to start date to practice IV insertions.

Responsibilities

  • Performing and accurately recording vital signs, Accu-checks, bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobilizing patients.
  • Performing successful finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
  • Performing defined procedures on point of care instrumentation and EKGs.
  • Performing phlebotomy venipuncture.
  • Responding with promptness, compassion, and interest to needs of patients.
  • Order entry into Meditech.
  • Communicating to patients, employees, and physicians using courteous verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrating proficiency using required computer skills to document in the electronic medical record.
  • Performing Unit Clerk duties such as, answering phones, entering charges, calling provider consults, setting up patient transportation, assisting staff with clerical needs and audits and coordinates maintenance of unit supplies.
  • Scheduling and frequent contact with Provider offices.
  • Completing required in-service education.
  • Performing assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reporting to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
