About The Position

This is a part-time, PRN position for a Certified Nurse Assistant I in the Progressive Care Unit at Wilkes Medical Center. The role involves providing direct patient care under the guidance of an RN or LPN, assisting with patient preparation, examinations, and procedures, and ensuring effective communication within the healthcare team. The position requires adherence to medical center policies, infection prevention guidelines, and a commitment to professional growth and development.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of a North Carolina State-approved Nurse Aide I course.
  • Registered as a Nurse Aide I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Service Regulation.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively with frequent workload changes and competing demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within one year in select areas.

Responsibilities

  • Assist medical staff with patient preparation, examinations, and procedures, including patient interviews, data documentation, and vital signs monitoring.
  • Participate in implementing the nursing process by providing direct care to patients under the guidance of an RN or LPN.
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, restocking, and proper equipment setup.
  • Ensure complete, accurate, and timely communication of patient information within the healthcare team.
  • Collect and process specimens for diagnostic testing following policy guidelines.
  • Accurately document all patient care provided in the medical record according to medical center policy.
  • Maintain competency for point of care testing as assigned, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, colleagues, patients, and family members in a professional and positive manner.
  • Take personal responsibility and initiative for professional growth and development.
  • Provide age/developmentally appropriate patient care following guidelines for the clinical population served.
  • Comply with Medical Center Infection Prevention policies to manage infectious materials using proper techniques, sanitization, chemical disinfection, surgical asepsis, and safe handling of biohazardous materials.
  • Adhere to the Medical Center's mission, vision, values, and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing and Service Line standards in patient care.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
