This is a full-time position for a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the Medical Surgical Orthopedics Unit at Aurora St. Lukes South Shore. The role involves assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with daily patient care, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation. The CNA will also be responsible for measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and patient data, as well as accurately documenting in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The position requires active participation in patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring patient call lights are always within reach and promptly answered. The CNA will collect specimens, perform point-of-care testing, and maintain competencies. Additionally, the role involves running errands, ordering stock for the nursing area, cleaning equipment and work areas, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties that require lifting and pushing/pulling. Tasks related to nutritional needs and maintaining skin integrity will also be performed. Depending on unit requirements, the CNA may assist with IV removal, post-mortem care, and bladder scans. Adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile/aseptic procedures, is crucial. The CNA must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding growth and development principles.
