The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides resident care as assigned and per individual resident routine, according to standards of care, under CMS Federal and State Regulations for Skilled Nursing Facilities, and facility policies and procedures. This role involves a comprehensive understanding of resident needs, including cognitive patterns, mood, behavior, and expressions of distress. The CNA is responsible for performing and documenting daily care such as range of motion exercises, transfers, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating. They assist residents with activities and grooming according to personal preferences. The position requires knowledge of care and services provided by therapists and understanding their relationship to CNA care. The CNA must be able to identify factors underlying resident distress, apply knowledge of lifelong patterns to enhance quality of life, and individualize routine care. They must also understand that residents with dementia may respond predictably to situations and match activities to individual abilities. The CNA documents how residents communicate needs, answers call lights promptly, and maintains a clean work environment. Responsibilities also include managing supplies, floating to various units, participating in quality assurance, and providing leadership and training to new CNAs.
