About The Position

The CMT Laboratory/Field Technician will perform advanced laboratory testing for Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), concrete, soils, and aggregates to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards. This role requires an experienced professional with 2+ years in the construction industry, particularly in HMA production and testing, and the ability to work independently while supporting District and Area Offices. Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in construction materials testing, field inspection, or related construction work
  • Working knowledge of asphalt (HMA), concrete, soil, and aggregate testing methods and standards
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and standardized testing procedures
  • Current TxAPA Level 1A certification
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately document and report test results in compliance with project requirements
  • Comfort working independently in the field while managing time, priorities, and multiple job sites
  • Basic proficiency with tools like Microsoft Excel and Word for reporting and data tracking
  • Valid driver's license with willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible schedules, including occasional nights or extended hours

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field, lab, and plant testing of HMA, concrete, soils, and aggregates, including batching samples and applying correction factors.
  • Perform daily QC/QA sampling and testing to ensure compliance with project specifications and TxDOT HMA standards.
  • Provide technical support to roadway personnel, addressing placement testing and troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and document laboratory equipment and test results in accordance with quality and safety standards.
  • Monitor data streams, assess system tasks, document activities, and escalate complex issues to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate on process improvements, follow operational and safety guidelines, participate in training, and support additional duties as assigned.
