About The Position

Atlas is seeking a motivated CMT Field Technician to perform construction materials testing and inspection services on a variety of infrastructure and commercial projects throughout Southeast Texas. In this role, you will conduct field testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials to help ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. You will travel to construction sites, document observations, prepare electronic reports, and communicate findings to project managers and engineers. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced outdoor environment with varying schedules and project locations. Industry certifications such as ACI, TXDOT, or Asphalt certifications are preferred but not required for candidates with a strong willingness to develop their skills. This position offers the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing to the successful delivery of critical construction projects.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Willingness to learn and work flexible shifts as needed to support project demands.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn new software systems, including TXDOT SiteManager.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve effectively under pressure while maintaining compliance with project specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time as required for project assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous construction experience preferred.
  • TXDOT, ACI, Asphalt, or related industry certifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge of construction materials testing standards and procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction-related field tests as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and Senior Engineer.
  • Travel to construction sites throughout Southeast Texas, including overnight and weekend assignments as needed.
  • Communicate field observations and testing results to project managers and engineers, with limited in-field decision-making responsibilities.
  • Transport equipment, test specimens, and documents to field personnel, laboratories, clients, and other office locations.
  • Assist with the setup, operation, and breakdown of testing equipment in the field.
  • Enter and maintain daily field observation reports and summary reports electronically.
  • Perform field quality control testing of in-place concrete.
  • Conduct field density testing of soil and perform testing on concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials.
  • Support technicians and professional staff with project-related tasks and assist other departments as needed.
  • Follow Atlas safety plans, programs, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
