About The Position

The CMM Programmer is responsible for programming, fixturing, and operating ZEISS Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) using Calypso software to inspect precision-machined components. This position ensures raw materials, components, sub-assemblies, and finished products meet the required quality standards and specifications as defined by the Quality Management System (QMS). This position plays a critical role in upholding Dexter's commitment to delivering high-quality products by conducting thorough inspections and collaborating to address quality concerns.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience programming and operating CMM equipment in a manufacturing or quality control environment.
  • Experience with ZEISS CMMs (Calypso) and CAD software required.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T.
  • Experience inspecting tight-tolerance machined components.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and quality management systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and others.
  • Knowledge of measurement principles, inspection methodologies, and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Knowledge of ERP systems; experience with Epicor is a strong advantage.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional technical training or certification in quality, manufacturing, or engineering is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Net-Inspect and FAI software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, program, validate, set up, and improve ZEISS Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) using Calypso software and vision systems (Keyence & Micro-vu), including fixture design, part alignment, program verification, setup documentation, fixturing instructions, and setup photographs to ensure accurate, repeatable, and reliable measurement results.
  • Lead the inspection of products and components to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Perform first article inspections (AS9102 FAI), in-process inspections, final inspections, and non-conformance.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, optical comparators, and other metrology equipment to perform detailed inspections.
  • Maintain documentation to ensure accuracy, traceability, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve CMM programming, setup, fixturing, and measurement-related issues.
  • Maintain and update the program matrix for all automated inspection equipment in coordination with the Lead Technician.
  • Support Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), Gauge R&R studies, and process capability initiatives in collaboration with Quality Engineering and the Lead Technician.
  • Maintain calibration records and perform reference checks on critical automated inspection equipment in conjunction with the Calibration Technician.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, customer requirements, and internal quality management system procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve quality concerns, support root cause investigations, and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to Quality Inspectors and other team members regarding inspection methods, CMM operation, and quality standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of quality and operational goals.
