About The Position

CMM Programmers/Operators operate and program Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and other measurement equipment in an automotive manufacturing plant. They analyze specifications, set up gauges or fixtures according to released part GD&T, and create and execute measurement programs to validate part quality. The work may involve interpreting specifications, blueprints, manufacturers' manuals, sketches, and similar documents, and planning operation sequences and required materials using computer technology such as CAD. The role includes reporting measurement results in detail, communicating effectively, and solving problems. The candidate may also perform incidental tasks needed to complete larger tasks.

Requirements

  • Provide detailed reports communicating measurement results.
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to plan sequences of operations for creating or operating CMM programs.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments.
  • Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies based on specifications.
  • Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled measurement equipment with PC-DMIS or PolyWorks software.
  • Test completed tools to ensure parts meet specifications and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Lift, position, and secure machine parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists, vises, V-blocks, or angle plates.
