This position is responsible for operating the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to verify that printed circuit boards meet the dimensional requirements of the customer fabrication drawing, customer specifications and SOMACIS internal specifications. The ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is essential to this role. You should be familiar with necessary operations in producing quality product in an efficient manner. Working independently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment is a must. CMM operators will also be cross trained in other areas.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read and interpret fabrication drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, datum schemes, hole charts, drawing notes and revision levels
  • Must be able to read, understand and apply customer specifications and SOMACIS internal specifications, procedures and work instructions to determine inspection and acceptance requirements
  • GD&T required: either GD&T certification (ASME GDTP Technologist level or equivalent) or demonstrated experience interpreting and applying GD&T per ASME Y14.5 in dimensional inspection
  • Successful candidates are expected to be motivated, adaptable, innovative, responsible and produce quality results
  • 2-3 years of experience working in a Quality Assurance or dimensional inspection role in a manufacturing environment; PCB, aerospace/defense or AS9100 experience preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English to the degree necessary to perform the job
  • Must have hands-on experience with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, height gauges, optical comparator or vision system); prior CMM operating experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with IPC-6012, IPC-A-600 and AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements preferred
  • Organized and detail-oriented to inspect products through various stages of the manufacturing process and maintaining internal/customer documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both orally and written
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations, including tolerance calculations and inch/metric conversions
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and data entry into MES/ERP systems
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • CMM programming experience (PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS or equivalent) is a plus
  • Qualified applicants must hold U.S. Citizenship, Permanent Resident, Asylee or Refugee Status

Nice To Haves

  • PCB, aerospace/defense or AS9100 experience preferred
  • Familiarity with IPC-6012, IPC-A-600 and AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements preferred
  • CMM programming experience (PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS or equivalent) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret customer fabrication drawings (board outline, hole charts, datums, slots, cutouts, notes, revision level) to determine inspection requirements, tolerances and acceptance criteria
  • Review customer specifications, the shop traveler and SOMACIS internal specifications on every job to confirm the governing requirements before measuring, and escalate unclear or conflicting requirements
  • Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 (datums, feature control frames, position, profile, flatness, material condition modifiers) when setting up, running and evaluating CMM measurements
  • Working closely with the Quality Assurance team inspecting materials and products to meet internal and external specifications
  • Documenting any production issues with materials, production process, and/or machinery
  • Measure PCBs with the CMM to verify features are within drawing tolerances, and identify, document and segregate nonconforming products
  • Perform first article, in-process and final dimensional inspections and complete inspection reports, including dimensional data and ballooned drawings for AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR)
  • Verify calibration status of the CMM and measuring tools before use
  • Work with Quality Engineers to communicate findings
  • Collect and analyze data to be presented to management team
  • Follow all safety and operational guidelines for handling products, operating machinery, and promote a safe working environment
