About The Position

The CMM Operator supports product configuration verification by operating and maintaining coordinate measuring machine programs that generate accurate, reliable inspection data. This position reviews technical requirements, sets up and measures parts and tooling, evaluates results against specified dimensions and tolerances, documents nonconforming conditions, and helps resolve measurement or equipment issues while maintaining a safe and orderly work environment.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of stationary and portable CMM equipment and related software packages
  • Engineering drawings, digital models, manufacturing plans, dimensions, tolerances, and technical specifications
  • CMM setup, probe selection, calibration, origin establishment, measurement sequencing, and result interpretation
  • Precision measuring instruments and manual dimensional-inspection methods
  • Advanced mathematics used in dimensional inspection and quality verification
  • Applicable manuals, customer requirements, quality procedures, and nonconformance documentation practices
  • CAD and/or CATIA applications for preparing technical sketches
  • Routine equipment maintenance, surface-plate care, machine cleaning, and shop safety practices

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of experience operating a stationary or portable CMM preferred
  • Two-year technical college education or completion of an apprenticeship in a recognized trade, craft, or occupation preferred
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearance requirements
  • Successful candidates must be able to obtain required Program Access approval, if applicable

Responsibilities

  • Operate stationary and portable coordinate measuring equipment to verify component and tooling dimensions against specified requirements
  • Review manufacturing plans, engineering drawings, digital models, and applicable specifications to determine required dimensions and tolerances
  • Select, install, and run the appropriate CMM program by matching part or tool identification to available program listings
  • Select the correct ruby-tipped probe, complete setup activities, and calibrate the probe to the reference sphere at required intervals
  • Position and level parts on the measuring-equipment surface plate while protecting the part and machine from damage
  • Establish origins, activate digital readout equipment, and record measurements in accordance with the programmed inspection sequence
  • Print and evaluate measurement results, compare findings with specified dimensions and tolerances, and identify discrepancies
  • Perform manual dimensional inspections as needed to confirm questionable or unexpected CMM results
  • Document nonconforming conditions accurately and in accordance with established quality procedures
  • Install and run CMM programs supporting production operations and prepare sketches using CAD and/or CATIA when required
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving CMM, software, material, and measurement issues within established time constraints
  • Perform routine equipment care, including cleaning machines and stoning surface plates, and promptly report equipment, software, or material concerns
  • Perform Level II Quality Assurance Inspector responsibilities as operating conditions require
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices and comply with all company, quality, and safety policies, including required personal protective equipment
  • Participate in cross-training, team activities, cost-reduction initiatives, and process-improvement efforts
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with coworkers, team members, supervisors, and vendors
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
