About The Position

The CMaR Mechanical/Electrical Construction Inspector is responsible for performing field inspections and construction oversight for process mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation & controls (I&C) systems on large, complex water and wastewater treatment projects delivered under Construction Manager at Risk (CMaR) or other collaborative delivery methods. This role supports the Owner’s Advisor, Construction Manager, and project team by ensuring that all construction activities are executed in compliance with contract documents, approved submittals, applicable codes, and industry standards. The Inspector plays a critical role in maintaining quality, safety, and constructability throughout all phases of construction. The position requires hands-on field presence and coordination with contractors, engineers, and client stakeholders within an active operating facility environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in mechanical, electrical, or related field OR equivalent field experience
  • 5–10 years of construction inspection experience, with focus on: Process mechanical systems and/or Electrical and I&C systems
  • Experience working on large, complex water/wastewater treatment facilities in operation
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and installation practices for mechanical and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of applicable codes (NEC, NFPA, local/state regulations)
  • Ability to identify construction defects and recommend corrective actions
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently in the field while coordinating with a multidisciplinary team
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with contractors, engineers, and client representatives

Nice To Haves

  • NICET Certification (Construction, Electrical, or Mechanical)
  • Experience with CMAR, Design-Build, or progressive delivery projects
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification
  • Experience with inspection software (e.g., Procore, e-Builder, or similar)
  • Familiarity with commissioning and startup of treatment plant systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily field inspections of mechanical and/or electrical installations, including: Pumps, piping systems, valves, and treatment process equipment; Electrical systems (switchgear, MCCs, transformers, conduit, cable tray); Instrumentation and control systems (SCADA, PLCs, field instrumentation)
  • Verify work is performed in accordance with: Approved plans and specifications; Submittals and shop drawings; Applicable codes and standards
  • Document inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions
  • Monitor contractor activities for compliance with project schedule, sequencing, and safety requirements
  • Coordinate with contractor, subcontractors, and other trades to ensure proper installation and interface between disciplines
  • Observe testing, startup, and commissioning activities for mechanical/electrical systems
  • Prepare daily inspection reports including labor, equipment, installed quantities, and site conditions
  • Track and document non-conformance issues and support resolution
  • Maintain inspection logs, photo documentation, and field records in accordance with project requirements
  • Assist in reviewing submittals, RFIs, and field directives for constructability and compliance
  • Support the Owner’s Advisor/Construction Manager in identifying potential impacts to cost, schedule, or scope
  • Participate in progress meetings, coordination meetings, and technical discussions
  • Witness equipment testing, pressure testing, electrical testing (e.g., megger, continuity), and system startup
  • Verify that testing procedures comply with specifications and manufacturer requirements
  • Assist in punch list development and closeout activities
  • Monitor contractor adherence to safety plans and OSHA requirements
  • Identify unsafe conditions and coordinate corrective actions with the contractor and project team
  • Ensure work is performed within an active plant environment without disruption to ongoing operations
