Requirements
- A desire to find a meaningful, fulfilling career
- Knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, medical diagnoses, and treatments
- Exceptional patient skills
- The ability to prepare and maintain records
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
- A positive and team-oriented attitude
- Ability to assist physicians in a professional manner
- Active Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, or Certified Medical Assistance (CMA).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Responsibilities
- Review charts, verify informed consent, and track laboratory or diagnostic results.
- Assess vital signs, log current medications, and verify surgical site readiness.
- Assist surgeons during minor in-office surgical procedures and examinations.
- Execute wound care, perform dressing changes, and remove sutures.
- Apply strict aseptic and sterile techniques to medical instruments and procedural setups.
- Schedule outpatient consultations, coordinate diagnostic tests, and secure surgical dates.
- Navigate Electronic Health Records (EHR), log orders, and finalize insurance paperwork.
- Provide clear instructions to patients regarding home recovery, pain management, and follow-up care.
- Return patient calls and ensure all patients feel valued and cared for.
- Provide additional coverage (rotating as needed) at our Waukee and Downtown Des Moines General Surgery locations.
