About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant/Lab Assistant functions as a member of the patient care team, contributing to the health management of the patients. They perform a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for Clinic patients, many in assistance to section physicians and under the direction and supervision of the Patient Care Manager. The role maintains primary responsibility for all technical procedures and the operation and care of the nursing unit in the department. Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, this position enhances and extends the productivity of Clinical Laboratory Scientists by performing patient accommodative services including phlebotomy, specimen receipt, specimen processing and technical procedures as assigned. The assistant also assumes other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Current CPR certification required
  • Ability to move, traverse, position self, remain in a stationary position and negotiate steps for up to eight hours per day
  • Ability to lift, move and transport patients, maneuver objects, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Visual and auditory acuity
  • Ability to distinguish colors
  • Motor coordination and manual dexterity
  • Articulate speech
  • Ability to read and understand orders
  • Exposure to hazardous/bio-hazardous materials

Nice To Haves

  • Formal training which will probably be indicated by certification from an accredited medical assistant program
  • Two years broad experience with emphasis in family practice
  • Additional experience as a laboratory assistant/phlebotomist
