About The Position

Operation and Maintenance of CLS (Cable Landing Station) and the entire ecosystem involved. This role involves the maintenance of SDH/SONET/DWDM transmission equipment related to Submarine Fiber Optic Cable System(s), including Power equipment interface and Management Systems based at CLS (Cable Landing Station) and the PFE (Power Feeding Equipment) for the electrical part of submarine system at CLS. The position also requires conducting Preventive Maintenance tasks according to defined operations guidelines, providing Remote Hands for Collocated Customers, and assisting with testing and maintaining Preventive Maintenance Documentation. The engineer will perform all scheduled manual back-ups, firmware, or software updates per manufacturers standard and uphold SLA Requirements for all Carrier level occupants. Processing and managing all O&M activity within MTTR is crucial, as is interacting with NOC (Network Operations Center), customers, and telecommunication Carriers to fulfill tasks related to any Planned or Unplanned Network Event. Maintaining the Inventory System and spares cycle count of all DWDM submarine, transmission, power, and environmental control related systems is also a key responsibility. The role includes processing and managing routine circuit testing and acceptance procedures to backhaul providers, maintaining test equipment, interfaces, modules, firmware updates, and their calibration for operational availability. Effective communication with principals, department heads, and other maintenance personnel relating to telecommunications installation and maintenance is required. The provider must demonstrate expertise using network monitoring tools to monitor and operate several network sites supported. Network troubleshooting is required to support voice, video, and IP-data traffic. The engineer will be responsible for proactively monitoring several networks in several locations and providing 3rd level technical support for the NOC (Network Operations Center). This includes taking customer calls, working with them to understand technical related issues, managing customer circuit implementation test and turn up, and assisting in the development of technical requirements for new products. Answering inbound calls regarding customer concerns and providing excellent customer service and terminal support are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Technology or equivalent major is a must.
  • Must have 5-7 years of experience in the field of Optical Communications.
  • General knowledge of telecommunications technologies including: PFE, SDH, DWDM, OTN, Ethernet, and LAN technologies, and the inter-working of these technologies.
  • Referral Specialist and/or comprehensive call center knowledge.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills both in English and Spanish.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work closely with other team members and departments.
  • Proficient in basic Microsoft applications.
  • Excellent customer care skills including experience taking customer related technical calls.
  • A first-hand working knowledge of network monitoring tools.
  • General understanding of the overall industry direction with regard to telecommunication technologies and the applications they will support.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively document network outages and activities performed to restore outages.
  • Experience with the following: QinQ, G.8032, 802.3ad, 802.3ag, STP, PBT, VPLS, MPLS, Traffic Engineering, BGP, IS-IS, IPv6, IPv4.
  • Experience & hands-on configuration experience with Ethernet Switch Router.
  • Familiarity with Metro Ethernet products & solutions.
  • Knowledge of network security best practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience of repeated submarine cable systems is a definitive advantage.
  • Portuguese is a differencial.
  • Good knowledge and experience with the Internet Protocol (IP) suite is desirable.
  • Hand knowledge of Salesforce trouble-ticketing database system.
