About The Position

The Cloud Systems Engineer provides a combination of analytical and technical abilities as well as oversight of CCANY’s Information Technology (IT) systems holistically to include servers, hardware, software, network, and overall infrastructure providing subject matter expertise for both hardware and software. The Cloud Systems Administrator assists with implementing, supporting, maintaining, and managing IT services, including but not limited to Complex Problem Resolution, Technology and Architecture Planning, Operations, System Administration, and Project Management. This position will also provide advanced technical support for desktop, server, and networking issues. This role will ensure all IT services are properly maintained and upgraded, including anti-virus, backups, imaging, and patching.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related subject.
  • A minimum of five years of experience is required.
  • Systems Administration of virtual server environments and cloud infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Intune.
  • Working Knowledge of Cloud Services: Office365 and Azure.
  • Strong understanding of Azure AD, DNS, Windows Servers, Firewalls, Switching.
  • Expertise in Microsoft server and desktop operating systems including Windows Server 2016/2019, Windows 10 and 11.
  • Working knowledge of business backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Proven work experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows, Chrome. IOS / based environments.
  • Experience with cloud environments e.g. (AWS).
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware).
  • Experience with monitoring systems, documentation, and escalation of issues.
  • Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
  • Knowledge of database and networking security systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer hardware systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of operating systems, Enterprise programming languages, and Office software.
  • Ability to strategize and think about the big picture in terms of scaling cloud infrastructure.
  • Ability to project a professional, friendly image over the phone and in person.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems quickly and completely.
  • Self-starter and takes initiative in completing tasks and projects.
  • Excellent written, verbal, listening and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex software and hardware issues and develop documentation pertaining to said issues.

Nice To Haves

  • IT Industry certifications or IT-related education is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerShell is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Python is preferred.
  • Knowledge of implementing email security is preferred.
  • Network switch, router, and firewall management experience is preferred.
  • Experience managing firewalls with deep packet inspection is preferred.
  • Experience managing and administrating an MDM solution is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve system hardware, software, and network issues
  • Monitor industry trends and developments for possible agency application
  • Assume responsibility for security issues: physical, network, virus, and data center
  • Coordinate Internet/Intranet access and ISP vendor problem resolution
  • Document and communicate problem resolutions to other IT staff
  • Design and implementation of on-premises, hosted, and cloud solutions
  • Provide and maintain network architecture documentation and charts
  • Design and build networks that scale
  • Assist with long-term technology planning
  • Maintain and implement cloud technology
  • Design, recommend and implement network upgrades
  • Perform capacity planning and monitoring of network, cloud, and server resources
  • Provide on-site assistance for network buildouts as needed
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of network, cloud, and server system
  • Obtain and review vendor certifications for network software and hardware
  • Consult with other departments on technology issues, questions, needs
  • Ensure interoperability of network, server, and cloud solutions
  • Coordinate with other unit leads to make sure that technologies are compatible
  • Coordinate remote access services and connectivity with other agencies

  • Install operating system patches and updates
  • Provide hardware support and installation
  • Ensure system back up procedures are functional and followed
  • Manage and maintain data security, virtualization, and storage platforms
  • Maintain network switching platform
  • Update and manage firewalls
  • Develop project plans, assemble teams, make, and monitor project assignments
  • Use project management tools to schedule tasks and resources
  • Procure software, hardware, and services required for project implementation
  • Modify project as necessary for success
  • Maintains confidentiality
