About The Position

The Division of Information Technology (IT) strives to be a strategic, innovative, and best‐in‐class IT organization that provides a leading‐edge technology environment for students, faculty, and staff to advance the University’s mission, vision, and goals. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our IT Infrastructure Services department as the Cloud Systems Administrator III. Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Working independently under general supervision, designs and implements systems solutions that meet the university's evolving needs.
  • Applies advanced technical knowledge and expertise in complex systems administration to provide technical advice on systems.
  • Demonstrates advanced discernment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining system administration solutions.
  • Activities include the conceptualization, development, and implementation of complex systems and infrastructure.
  • Decision making is based on systems administration best practices; system standards; university and information system and security policies, guidelines, and protocols; and university needs and goals.
  • Work is focused on ensuring alignment with overall objectives.
  • Handles multiple work priorities and may provide lead work direction with accountability for results.
  • Thorough and advanced knowledge of operating systems, server administration, scripting languages, virtualization technologies, and cloud technologies.
  • Demonstrated competence in independently applying advanced judgment to resolve difficult and complex system administration problems and issues.
  • Advanced project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple, large, and/or complex projects, including project design and planning; ongoing resource, materials, and time management; and implementation.

Nice To Haves

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) experience is preferred and will be emphasized in evaluating candidates.
  • Four or more years of progressively responsible systems administration experience supporting cloud, server, virtualization, or hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Experience administering, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, securing, and improving production cloud environments and services, preferably in AWS.
  • Experience with cloud account structures, landing zones, multi-account environments, identity and access management, permission boundaries, tagging standards, centralized logging, governance controls, and Financial Operations (FinOps) practices.
  • Experience with AWS Organizations, service control policies, IAM permission boundaries, CloudFormation, CloudFormation StackSets, AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK), AWS Command Line Interface (CLI), AWS Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Config, GuardDuty, IAM Access Analyzer, AWS Backup, AWS Budgets, Cost Explorer, or comparable cloud administration and governance tools.
  • Experience developing or maintaining infrastructure-as-code using tools such as AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Terraform, Git-based workflows, or comparable automation tools.
  • Experience supporting cloud-hosted Linux and Windows Server environments, managed services, containers, serverless components, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, incident response, and operational documentation.
  • Experience evaluating new cloud services, developing proof-of-concepts, recommending service improvements, or supporting cloud modernization efforts.
  • Experience working in higher education or other complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Industry-recognized certifications such as AWS Certified System Operations (SysOps) Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or Professional, AWS Certified Security Specialty, AWS Certified Advanced Networking Specialty, Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate, or comparable certifications are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Administering, operating, monitoring, securing, automating, documenting, and improving cloud and hybrid systems that support university operations, academic technology, research computing, innovation initiatives, and Division of IT services.
  • Providing hands-on systems administration support for production cloud environments and cloud-hosted platforms, including application streaming, sandbox environments, analytics/reporting platforms, cloud-hosted applications, compute, storage, networking, identity and access management, monitoring, logging, backup, and related services.
  • Supporting cloud operations in alignment with the Division of IT standards and coordinating with Infrastructure Services, Network Services, Information Security, Identity and Access Management (IAM), Enterprise Applications, Academic Technology, Research Computing, Procurement, vendors, CSU systemwide partners, colleges, departments, and other campus stakeholders.
  • Evaluating new cloud services and features, supporting migrations and service enhancements, recommending operational improvements, and providing technical guidance or knowledge transfer when assigned.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
