About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Cloud Solutions Architect AWS to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Herndon, VA, but also supports telecommuting. The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton's Department of State (DOS) Consular Systems Modernization (CSM) Program, for the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA). This initiative will modernize and consolidate the operational environment under a common technology framework to better support the services provided to CA’s customers. First and foremost, the candidate must have a passion for innovation and learning. As part of the modernization program, the Cloud Solutions Architect AWS will support design and implementation of cloud-based architectures supporting applications for both consular staff and the public.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline and a minimum of 8 years’ experience.
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate (SSA) Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting and delivering solutions using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) on AWS.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting production environments.
  • Must be able to obtain or have an Active Secret (or higher) clearance. Interim clearance acceptable.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional (SAP) Certification.
  • Experience with AWS App Mesh for service mesh implementation.
  • Experience authoring and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform.
  • Delivery of solutions that span both on-premises and cloud environments (hybrid cloud).
  • Deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates using both public and private certificate authorities.
  • Familiarity with using Okta for machine-to-machine (service-to-service) authentication and authorization.
  • Familiarity with federal compliance requirements (FedRAMP, NIST, etc.) and centralized logging solutions (Splunk).

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud solution architectures.
  • Define and establish Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles and policies aligned with least privilege access and defense-in-depth.
  • Provision and manage AWS resources using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools.
  • Define Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), security groups, subnets, and other networking components to ensure secure and efficient communication between resources.
  • Implement auto-scaling solutions to ensure fault tolerance and optimal resource utilization across multiple Availability Zones (AZs).
  • Ensure proper tagging, monitoring, and logging of cloud resources for audit and operational purposes.
  • Utilize static code analysis tools such as Nexus IQ and SonarQube to identify vulnerabilities, enforce code quality standards, and ensure compliance with security policies throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Communicate technical topics to management, peers, customers, and non-technical audiences.
