About The Position

Seeking an experienced Cloud Solutions Architect 2 to support enterprise-wide cloud infrastructure, IT modernization, data centre transformation, and cloud service delivery initiatives. The Cloud Solutions Architect will provide senior-level architecture, engineering, technical leadership, and solution design across cloud and hybrid environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or GCP, cloud networking, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), DevOps, automation, security, monitoring, and cloud-native technologies. This role will work closely with HHSC Data Center Operations (DCO), Enterprise Architecture, CTO leadership, application development teams, portfolio managers, business stakeholders, and other technology partners. The successful candidate will work with considerable independence and will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical solutions and architectural deliverables on schedule.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in Enterprise IT architecture, engineering, or systems analysis.
  • Experience with Cloud technologies and services from major cloud providers.
  • Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience with Cloud service delivery models: IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
  • Experience with Cloud networking and cloud-based network architecture.
  • Experience with Cloud security, data governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology and Scrum ceremonies.
  • Experience with Cloud DevOps and CI/CD principles.
  • Experience with Containerization, microservices, and Kubernetes architecture.
  • Experience with Kubernetes deployment, scaling, maintenance, and administration.
  • Experience with Serverless infrastructure and cloud APIs/integrations.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and cloud automation.
  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation, and Azure ARM Templates.
  • Experience with Cloud monitoring, logging, auditing, and performance management.
  • Experience with automation using: Bash, KornShell, PowerShell, Cloud CLI, Kubernetes Helm.
  • Experience with Declarative/imperative configuration languages including: YAML, JSON, Ruby, HCL.
  • Experience with Docker and other IaC/automation technologies.
  • Experience with Technical architecture documentation and diagramming.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience leading technical teams and creating technology standards/best practices.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities in a high-pressure environment.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years of cloud architecture/engineering experience.
  • 8+ years architecting enterprise cloud or hybrid IT solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud database services, including: SQL, Oracle, NoSQL, Cloud databases.
  • Experience with data lakes and cloud ETL/ELT.
  • Experience supporting structured and unstructured data platforms.

  • Experience with data pipelines, ETL processes, and big data frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cloud architecture and IT modernization initiatives supporting HHSC Data Center Operations.
  • Develop cloud architectural blueprints, network topologies, technical specifications, and solution designs.
  • Design and implement solutions across public, private, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Assess business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable cloud solutions.
  • Analyze existing systems, identify limitations and gaps, and recommend modernization strategies.
  • Support migration and transformation of on-premises environments to cloud platforms.
  • Evaluate cloud service options and present architecture recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Serve as a senior cloud engineer/architect supporting technology initiatives and enterprise projects.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as: Terraform, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager (ARM) Templates.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and cloud automation processes.
  • Support containerized applications and microservices architectures.
  • Design, deploy, configure, scale, and maintain Kubernetes environments.
  • Support Kubernetes clusters, serverless infrastructure, APIs, and cloud integrations.
  • Automate infrastructure and application deployment using scripting and cloud-native tools.
  • Incorporate security requirements into cloud architecture and solution designs.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate identity and access management (IAM) controls.
  • Ensure cloud solutions comply with applicable security, governance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support HIPAA compliance and HHSC information security best practices.
  • Apply data governance, security, auditing, logging, and compliance principles to cloud environments.
  • Evaluate security risks and recommend appropriate controls.
  • Design and support cloud monitoring, performance management, logging, and auditing solutions.
  • Work with tools such as: Sysdig Secure / CNAPP, Dynatrace, AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, GCP Cloud Operations, OCI Monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, applications, APIs, Kubernetes environments, and integrations.
  • Identify performance issues and develop solutions to improve system reliability and scalability.
  • Lead cross-functional technical initiatives involving HHSC teams, other state agencies, and technology partners.
  • Coordinate multiple projects, assignments, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Provide technical direction and mentoring to team members.
  • Develop and establish cloud architecture best practices, standards, procedures, and documentation.
  • Work within Agile/Scrum environments and participate in Scrum ceremonies.
  • Collaborate with application development, data, infrastructure, security, and business teams.
  • Produce high-quality architecture documentation, technical specifications, diagrams, and implementation plans.
  • Use tools such as Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Document current-state and future-state architectures and identify gaps between them.
  • Assist with IT planning, technology recommendations, and project justification.
  • Develop and/or deliver technical training for IT and program staff on new technologies and platforms.
