About The Position

We are looking for a Cloud Operations Manager to lead and grow our Cloud Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the operational excellence of our cloud environment — from ensuring system reliability and observability to driving cost efficiency and actively contributing to customer success. You will work cross-functionally with Support, Technical Account Management, and other engineering teams to represent Cloud Operations in customer-facing engagements and strategic initiatives. This is a people-first leadership role for someone who thrives in a dynamic, distributed environment and who is passionate about operational quality, continuous improvement, and team development.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading or managing a cloud operations, SRE, or infrastructure team.
  • Strong background in incident management, on-call operations, and observability tooling (e.g., Grafana, PagerDuty, ELK, Prometheus, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms ( AWS, Azure, and/or GCP ) and/or cloud-agnostic deployment platforms and open-source technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Terraform, OpenStack, or similar infrastructure-as-code and containerization frameworks).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and optimize cloud costs at scale.
  • Experience collaborating with customer-facing teams (Support, TAM, Pre-Sales) on technical topics.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken); additional languages (Romanian, German, Finnish) are a plus.
  • Strong people management skills with a track record of building and retaining high-performing teams.
  • Strategic thinker who can balance operational day-to-day demands with longer-term improvements.
  • Data-driven decision-maker with a focus on measurable outcomes.
  • Comfortable working in a remote-first, internationally distributed environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Romania, Germany, and Finland.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a distributed Cloud Operations team across multiple locations.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive team performance through clear goal-setting, regular feedback, and career development support.
  • Manage hiring, onboarding, and team structure as the organization scales.
  • Own the end-to-end incident management lifecycle — from detection and response to post-mortem analysis and preventive action.
  • Define and enforce SLAs, SLOs, and escalation procedures.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of observability and monitoring strategies (metrics, logs, traces) to ensure proactive issue detection and resolution.
  • Drive a culture of blameless retrospectives and lessons learned.
  • Take ownership of cloud spend visibility, forecasting, and governance.
  • Identify and drive cost optimization initiatives across cloud infrastructure (rightsizing, reserved capacity, resource lifecycle management, etc.).
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to embed cost-awareness into architectural decisions.
  • Report on cloud financial KPIs to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Support and Technical Account Management teams to represent Cloud Operations in customer escalations, RFP responses, and pre/post-sales engagements.
  • Provide technical input and operational insights for customer cases requiring cloud expertise.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for cloud operational matters in cross-departmental initiatives.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits package
  • Flexible, remote-first work environment from any Matrix42 office location
  • Flexible working hours
  • Hybrid work environment
