Cloud Infrastructure Engineer II

Astreya•Boulder, CO

About The Position

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer II is a hands-on, mid-level role supporting cloud and virtualized infrastructure. Working within the team's architecture and standards, the engineer builds and maintains cloud environments, improves deployment reliability through infrastructure-as-code and automation, administers Linux and Windows systems, and implements identity and access controls. The role supports centralized security-application infrastructure in GCP and virtualized on-premises and cloud-hosted environments. It also provides implementation-tier support to operations and sustainment teams and contributes to runbooks, configuration records, and Technical Design Documentation.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of hands-on experience in cloud and enterprise infrastructure engineering, with demonstrated production-environment delivery.
  • Working proficiency in GCP core services: Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC, and IAM, as well as cloud-native high-availability patterns.
  • Practical Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform and Ansible; these are mandatory.
  • Scripting experience with Python, Bash, and PowerShell; familiarity with Puppet and Git.
  • Linux and Windows enterprise operating-system administration; virtualization experience with VMware or Hyper-V; experience with Dell iDRAC and DellOME for hardware management.
  • Ability to provision IAM across operating systems and cloud, including Active Directory, Google IAM, and RBAC, while enforcing least privilege.
  • Technical documentation skills, including runbooks and TDD contributions.
  • Willingness to work business hours with on-call escalation in a global support model.
  • Required certification: GCP Professional Cloud Architect or GCP Associate Cloud Engineer.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Implement and configure GCP environments, including Compute Engine, Cloud Storage with retention policies, and VPC networking, for centralized security applications.
  • Build and maintain virtualized on-premises and cloud-hosted infrastructure.
  • Deploy high-availability mechanisms, failover, clustering, and load balancing, and validate redundancy behavior after implementation.
  • Author and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and Ansible; contribute to orchestration and configuration management using Puppet, Git, and PowerShell.
  • Automate routine provisioning and sustainment tasks with Python and Bash to reduce manual effort and configuration drift.
  • Provision and administer infrastructure IAM across operating systems, enforcing least-privilege and least-service models.
  • Configure tiered storage and database resources in line with retention, uptime, and auditability requirements.
  • Provide implementation-tier support for escalations from operations and sustainment teams; escalate design-level issues to L3 with detailed handover notes.
