The National Systems Group serves as the technical advisor to the Intelligence Community and its mission partners involved in the collection and distribution of national and tactical intelligence, including electronics programs, advanced technologies, ground and communications, imagery programs, and systems engineering and launch. We are looking for a Cloud/Hosting Engineer (Sr. Project Leader – Cloud Computing Architecture) to support the National Reconnaissance Office’s (NRO) COMM Hosting Services Group (HSG). HSG plans, develops, acquires, delivers, sustains, and brokers Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and capabilities to meet the hosting and data center management requirements of the NRO’s acquisition programs and operational mission systems. Tasking for this position will be focused on performing requirements analysis, developing onboard hosting solutions, providing cost estimates, conducting data analysis, presenting findings and recommendations, and responding to other technical support needs associated with both customer- and commercially-provided hosting environments. This position requires 100% on site work in Chantilly, VA

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or a related technical field from a recognized institution
  • 12 or more years of relevant experience
  • Experience with hosting environment hardware technologies, including Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Network (SAN), Object (S3), and Tape storage systems, commodity servers and Graphics Processing Units (GPU), and networking architectures and systems
  • Direct experience in providing engineering solutions, technical analysis and impact assessments, tradeoffs, and market research in hosting environments
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure technologies, including virtualization (e.g., VMWare), commercial clouds (e.g., AWS, Azure), and containers (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with space and ground processing systems and mission ground station operations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to include oral and written communication
  • This position may require domestic and international travel, approximately 10%
  • This position a current and active TS/SSBI/SCI security clearance and polygraph, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience or familiarization with Commercial Cloud Enterprise (C2E), Agency Unique Environment (AUE)/Mission Unique Environments (MUE), and the Enterprise Pre-D Storage Service (EPRS)
  • Experience with the acquisition of a large software-intensive ground processing systems in all phases of the acquisition life cycle: requirements development, acquisition of new capability via engineering change proposals (ECPs), software development, code and unit testing, factory integration and testing, and ground segment integration testing
  • Experience with assisting customers in transitioning systems into a cloud environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, company leadership, and matrixed engineering staff
  • Knowledge of data center operations
  • Cloud certifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead technical assessments of compute and storage onboarding solutions and conduct gap analysis to ensure robust technical resolutions
  • Conduct technical data analysis of hosting environments; provide engineering assessments and recommendations to the customer community
  • Conduct system analysis of various ground systems to understand dependencies and assess different hosting possibilities
  • Investigate urgent technical problems; assemble briefings or reports to relay findings and recommendations
  • Deliver independent and objective reviews on HSG architecture and system engineering documents, strategies, plans, and issues
  • Leverage the Aerospace "backplane" to collaborate across directorate boundaries to promote and ensure clean interfaces and boundaries between internal and external customers
  • Identify and lead matrixed Aerospace engineering staff and project teams for specified projects and studies; act as spokesperson for the team when presenting observations, results, and recommendations.
  • Act as lead technical expert in both internal and external customer forums; represent customer and management positions as required
