Cloud Engineer – Azure / Terraform
About The Position
SGA is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer with an Azure/Terraform background for a 12-month+ consulting engagement with a premier utility client in Brandon, FL. This position requires 3-4 days onsite per week. The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on Microsoft Azure infrastructure experience, coupled with strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Terraform, Azure DevOps, and automation. This role is crucial for the buildout and maturation of a developing Azure cloud environment, demanding a candidate skilled in designing, building, and implementing cloud infrastructure and automation, rather than just maintaining an established system.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience designing and building Microsoft Azure infrastructure, preferably within large enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including building and deploying Azure infrastructure from code.
- Experience building and supporting Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and working with Git-based development workflows.
- Demonstrated experience working in cloud buildout, transformation, or modernization environments, rather than solely supporting established cloud infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of Azure networking, including private connectivity and hybrid cloud environments.
- Working knowledge of Azure governance, security, and identity/access management capabilities.
- Experience with PowerShell and Azure CLI for infrastructure automation.
- Experience with Azure Monitor and Azure Backup.
- Strong understanding of enterprise cloud infrastructure, automation, security, and operational best practices.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and Well-Architected Framework (WAF) is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, deploy, and support Azure cloud infrastructure across compute, storage, networking, identity, and security services.
- Help build and mature the organization's Azure cloud environment, establishing scalable and repeatable infrastructure patterns and practices.
- Develop reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, including modules and automated deployment processes.
- Build and manage Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment and configuration.
- Design and implement Azure networking solutions, including Virtual WAN, private endpoints, and hybrid connectivity.
- Implement Azure governance and security controls, including Azure Policy, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Azure Advisor, Secure Score, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud.
- Develop automation using Azure CLI and PowerShell to streamline cloud provisioning and operational processes.
- Implement and support Azure monitoring, backup, and operational management capabilities.
- Support Azure identity and access management, including hybrid identity, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Conditional Access, and MFA.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, networking, and other technology teams to establish secure, scalable, and supportable Azure solutions.
- Apply cloud architecture and engineering best practices to improve the reliability, security, consistency, and efficiency of the Azure environment.
