About The Position

The Cloud Engineering team at Jane is responsible for building and running Shipyard, an internal developer platform that empowers product teams to deploy and operate their services without infrastructure dependencies. This role involves creating golden paths, CLI tooling, and Kubernetes workflows to enable engineers to focus on software development. The work directly impacts the core functionality of Jane, ensuring the platform is healthy, observable, and easy to build upon, with a real and visible impact on thousands of clinics that depend on Jane daily. The ideal candidate is a hands-on Cloud Engineer at the L2 level, genuinely curious about platform engineering, and motivated by improving the experience of other developers. This role requires a proactive approach, considering the practical application of tools and systems from an engineering perspective before implementation.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments, including cluster operations, Helm, RBAC, networking, and debugging workloads.
  • Terraform proficiency, including writing modules, managing remote state, and understanding infrastructure-as-code principles.
  • AWS fluency in core services and container orchestration services, with an understanding of their integration with EKS and user needs.
  • A platform engineering mindset, with experience building consumable tools for other engineers (e.g., CLI, shared modules, pipeline templates).
  • Comfort with observability concepts (SLIs, SLOs, structured logging, distributed tracing).
  • Experience with scripting in Python or Bash for operational task automation.

Nice To Haves

  • EKS experience.
  • Familiarity with AI coding tools like Cursor or Claude Code, including the judgment to use them effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain production infrastructure on AWS EKS using Terraform and Helm, ensuring platform reliability for product teams.
  • Develop Shipyard's self-service capabilities, including CLI tooling and GitOps pipelines via ArgoCD, to streamline the code deployment process.
  • Undertake on-call responsibilities, contributing to runbooks and post-mortems to reduce incident duration and enhance system observability.
  • Collaborate with product managers to identify and resolve platform tooling friction points, delivering improvements that reduce toil for Shipyard users.
  • Communicate effectively through documentation, code reviews, and team discussions to foster shared understanding and team alignment.
