About The Position

ICF is seeking a motivated 2027 Summer Intern, Cloud Engineer to support cloud DevOps, governance, and security compliance work across AWS and Azure environments. The intern will contribute to the evolution of the Fathom Platform within the SCS environment and gain hands-on experience in cloud governance, security, and AI-assisted automation. The team treats AI and automation as core engineering practices. This is an entry-level, 10-week, full-time internship expected to begin in June and end in August. The work is hybrid in Reston, Virginia. Expected pay is $27 per hour for undergraduate interns and $32 per hour for graduate interns. Housing and relocation assistance are not available. The intern will rotate among the team’s core work areas, with projects assigned according to team priorities. They may support infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD automation; cloud organization and account/subscription governance; identity and access management; policy guardrails; security tooling and Authorization to Operate (ATO) compliance; vulnerability and cloud posture management; and audit evidence and documentation. The role also applies AI-enabled engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, specification-driven implementation, and reusable prompts, workflows, agents, and automation. The intern will collaborate with engineers on cloud-native products and services and participate in team meetings, code reviews, and documentation efforts. Tools and technologies may include AWS, Azure, Pulumi, Terraform, CloudFormation, GitHub, GitHub Actions, cloud security posture and vulnerability management tools, NIST 800-53-aligned security controls, AI-enabled IDEs, and coding assistants. Specific tools vary by project. Applicants must be able to pass any required background checks, which may include drug screening, and must have U.S. citizenship or permanent work authorization due to federal contract requirements. By the start date, applicants must have completed at least 60 college-level credit hours, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
