About The Position

This is a remote position that could be based anywhere in the United States or Canada. Calix is looking for a Summer Intern to join our Products Team for the summer months. You will be part of a unique and award-winning program within the company which provides the opportunity to learn new skills through training and on the job learning. The duration of the program is expected to be 90 days. This intern will join the Cloud Platform Engineering team who are responsible for the Platforms, Tools, and CI/CD pipelines at Calix. Our mission is to enable Calix engineers to accelerate the delivery of world-class products while ensuring high availability. As an Intern, you will play a pivotal role in implementing and maintaining our cloud infrastructure (GCP) with a focus on IaC (Terraform), Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and automation frameworks. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our cloud environments are scalable, secure, and efficient.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program majoring in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Understanding the Google Cloud Platform or Equivalent Cloud technology.
  • Understanding of CI/CD tools and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform/Terra Grunt.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Able to work for the complete summer break (May - August or June - September)

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to students who have completed their Junior or Senior years and who have previous internship or work experience.
  • Good Knowledge on Cloud networking will be a plus.
  • Knowledge on SRE best practices will be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform and Terragrunt.
  • Implement solutions in container orchestration with Kubernetes (k8s).
  • Implementing and supporting GCP technology stack services including computer engines, cloud storage, Kubernetes engine, Cloud functions, and more.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to establish best practices for CI/CD and GitOps workflows.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in cloud computing, IaC, and GitOps.
