About The Position

The FinOps Cloud Engineer (FinOps) will serve as a bridge between the engineering, finance, and operations teams. The engineer will use a collaborative approach to manage, optimize, and report on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) costs, ensuring cloud investments are efficient and deliver maximum business value.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 -5 years experience in a technology and/or software engineering role.
  • Prefer 2-3 years in an Cloud FinOps, Cloud platform, DevOps or similar role.
  • Deep understanding of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) billing, cost management tools, and pricing models
  • Hands-on experience with core GCP services (Compute Engine, GKE, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, etc.) and understanding their financial impacts
  • FinOps Framework principles and cloud financial management
  • Proficiency in analyzing large datasets (using BigQuery, SQL, etc.) to derive actionable insights regarding cloud spend
  • Experience with FinOps and cloud cost management platforms (e.g., native GCP Billing Export to BigQuery, PowerBi, etc)
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and how to implement cost-estimation policies
  • A strong mix of cloud engineering architecture knowledge and financial analytical skills
  • Experience with building and maintaining financial dashboards (e.g., Looker, Grafana, PowerBI)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with engineering, architecture, and finance teams to design and improve cloud cost allocation, tagging strategies, and reporting models.
  • Monitor and analyze GCP usage, proactively identifying opportunities for cost optimization, right-sizing, and waste reduction.
  • Manage and optimize Committed Use Discounts (CUDs), Sustained Use Discounts, and other pricing mechanisms within GCP.
  • Identify interdependencies and knowledge gaps between engineering and finance regarding cloud architecture and cloud spend.
  • Identifies opportunities to automate cost-reporting, budget thresholds, and anomaly detection activities.
  • Work closely with cloud engineering teams to ensure FinOps best practices are integrated into infrastructure-as-code and deployment pipelines.
  • Assist in the development, support & planning of FinOps tools, dashboards, and reporting infrastructure.
  • Investigate, triage, and resolve unexpected spikes in cloud billing and usage.
  • Utilize native GCP billing tools and third-party FinOps dashboards for proactive changes and alerting.
  • Establishes continuous process improvement cycles where cloud resource performance, cost efficiency, and supporting technologies are reviewed and enhanced where applicable.
