Cloud & DevOps Engineer

Ground Up InternationalNew York, NY
$110,000 - $120,000Onsite

About The Position

As a Cloud & DevOps Engineer, you will join a small, tight-knit IT and engineering group to own and operate our Azure infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and internal platform services. Reporting to the Technical Product Manager and working in close partnership with the IT Team, you will form the technical backbone of Ground Up’s internal tools function. This is a foundational hire for someone who takes pride in well-run systems—clean infrastructure-as-code, reliable deployments, sensible cost management, and robust security. You will make it easy for the rest of the team to ship, directly shaping what we can deliver with real ownership over how we operate. Our environment is Microsoft 365, Azure, Claude (Teams plan), and a growing collection of internal tools we are building to make Ground Up more productive. This is a foundational hire. You will work side-by-side with our IT Team and Business Users and report to our Technical Product Manager. The platform you build will directly shape what the rest of the team can deliver, and you will have real ownership over how we operate.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on Azure experience, including App Service, Entra ID, Key Vault, and Azure DevOps Pipelines
  • Strong infrastructure-as-code skills (Bicep, Terraform, or ARM templates)
  • Comfortable scripting in PowerShell and at least one of Python or Bash
  • Solid understanding of identity and access patterns: Entra ID, SSO, conditional access, service principals
  • Experience operating production workloads — you have been on-call, you have debugged the 2 a.m. alert, and you have opinions about what good monitoring looks like
  • Pragmatic about cost: you treat the Azure bill as something to be understood and managed, not just paid
  • Clear written and verbal communication; you can document what you build and explain operational tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform or Microsoft Fabric
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft 365 admin surface — tenant configuration, Graph API, security policies
  • Background supporting application teams that integrate LLM APIs or other AI tooling
  • Experience with small-team environments where "DevOps" includes a fair amount of light development work
  • Exposure to MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers or other AI-adjacent infrastructure
  • Microsoft Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-400, AZ-305, or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Own and operate our Azure environment: App Service, Functions, Entra ID, Key Vault, SQL DB’s, networking, and cost governance
  • Maintain and evolve our DevOps pipelines, including CI/CD for internal applications, MCP servers, and automation deployments
  • Deploy and operate platform services that our developers and AI tools depend on, including MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, integration endpoints, and shared infrastructure
  • Manage SSO, identity, and access patterns across our Microsoft 365 and Azure environments — Entra ID, conditional access, service principals, secrets in Key Vault
  • Establish and maintain monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices for our growing application portfolio
  • Own infrastructure-as-code: provision and manage Azure resources reproducibly using Bicep, Terraform, or ARM templates
  • Manage and report on our Azure spend — track costs, identify waste, and make sure infrastructure is sized appropriately
