About The Position

This role provides leadership, oversight, governance, and strategic direction for Cloud Services to enable IT service delivery. The Cloud Architect will oversee the documentation of architecture design and analysis, represent the Infrastructure Delivery Team in project planning, and establish a Cloud Asset Management Platform for billing, provisioning, and capacity management. This position involves partnering with other Cloud architects to converge cloud footprints into an enterprise-grade cloud, providing input to the Marriott infrastructure architecture and governance model, and ensuring technical leadership, oversight, standardization, and validation of the Cloud Environment's effectiveness. The role requires researching, designing, and implementing high-performing, standards-based, highly available, and secured software components. Additionally, the Cloud Architect will participate in the evaluation and selection of Infrastructure-based products, define Technical Infrastructure Architectures in relation to EA and SDLC initiatives, and institute governance based on best practices. The position involves leading analyses of the current environment to identify deficiencies and recommend solutions, as well as analyzing technology trends to assess their impact on the infrastructure architecture. The Cloud Architect will support Solution and Domain Architecture by providing direction on technology, software, and infrastructure for projects, and consult with architecture teams on necessary modifications to the technical architecture. A key responsibility is defining and executing the transition of complex applications, products, and services from traditional IT datacenters to private and/or public cloud environments, including the translation of infrastructure architectures to Cloud Native footprints. The role also involves partnering with Cloud Service and other technology service providers, functioning as a strategic senior technical expert, developing specific goals and plans, championing leadership's vision, making and executing decisions, providing direction to other teams, determining priorities and resources, analyzing information to solve problems, and supporting achievement of performance, budget, and team goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field followed by 8 years of progressively responsible experience with infrastructure engineering and/or architecture.
  • 5 years of experience in working with Cloud Infrastructure Architecture and Design with expertise in one or more of the following: Public Clouds (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and/or Alibaba Cloud (Aliyun))
  • 5 years of experience in working with Infrastructure and Configuration Management “as code” Services (HashiCorp HashiStack: Terraform, Vault, Consul, Nomad, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), Cloud Service Provider SDKs and APIs, and/or Custom API Development (Web Services))
  • 2 years of experience in working with Kubernetes Container-as-a-Service Platforms (Docker Enterprise, Red Hat OpenShift Enterprise, VMware EKS, and/or Mesosphere)
  • 2 years of experience in engineering or architecture experience in enterprise systems that support 99.99% service availability in an Agile environment
  • 3 years of experience with one or more of the following infrastructure technologies: Operating Systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Linux, Windows, and/or CentOS
  • 3 years of experience with Storage: Local Block Storage, Object Storage, Cross Region Replication (XDCR), Backup & Recovery Best Practices
  • 3 years of experience with Elastic Load Balancing Services, Domain Name Services and Registration
  • 3 years of experience with Security: Compliance, Information Assurance, Data Protection using industry-best practices and tooling ( Splunk Phantom/SignalFX, HashiCorp Vault signers, SHA1 and SHA2 certificate management)
  • 3 years of experience with Applications Frameworks: Tomcat, node.js, NginX, HTML5, Angular JS
  • 3 years of experience with both relational (Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL, and/or MSSQL Server), non-relational (Cassandra, Couchbase, and/or MongoDB) database technologies, and database caching technologies (Memcached, Redis)
  • 4 years of experience with cloud native database technologies (Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB, and/or Amazon RDS Aurora)
  • 2 years of experience in software development engineering (JavaScript, Java, Ruby, Python, Go)
  • Any experience with an enterprise cloud transformation effort
  • 2 years of experience in retail and/or hospitality industries.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, oversight, governance and strategic direction related to Cloud Services to enable the delivery of IT services
  • Oversee the documentation of all architecture design and analysis work
  • Represent the Infrastructure Delivery Team in project design and execution plans, to align them with Infrastructure Delivery Projects and Roadmap
  • Establish a Cloud Asset Management Platform, facilitating the normalization of billing, provisioning, and capacity management.
  • Partner with other Cloud architects to converge cloud footprints into an enterprise-grade cloud.
  • Provide input to the Marriott infrastructure architecture and governance model
  • Provide technical leadership, oversight, standardization and validation of the effectiveness for the Cloud Environment
  • Research, design, and implement high-performing software components that are standards-based, highly available and secured, delivering the required business functionality
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of Infrastructure based products
  • Define Technical Infrastructure Architectures as they related to Software Solutions Architecture initiatives within EA and Software Delivery Lifecycles (SDLCs)
  • Institute governance based on best practices and ensure proper alignment to projects and major initiatives
  • Lead analysis of the current environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommends solutions for improvement
  • Lead analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine the potential impact on the overall Infrastructure architecture
  • Support Solution and Domain Architecture by providing architecture direction in terms of technology, software and infrastructure for projects in the delivery life cycle
  • Consult with architecture teams to identify when it is necessary to modify the technical architecture to accommodate infrastructure needs.
  • Define and execute upon how to transition complex applications, products, and services from the Traditional IT datacenter environment to private and/or public cloud environments
  • Translation of project-level and enterprise-level infrastructure architectures from the Traditional IT (systems, networking, and/or storage) footprint to Cloud Native footprints
  • Partner with Cloud Service and other technology service providers
  • Function as a strategic senior technical expert within the department.
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Champion leaders’ vision for product and service delivery.
  • Make and execute the necessary decisions to keep moving forward toward achievement of goals.
  • Provide direction and assistance to other teams regarding projects.
  • Determine priorities, schedules, plans and necessary resources to promote completion of any projects on schedule.
