The Role Candidate’s primary responsibility is to lead the design, engineering, and release of closure systems on vehicle programs. The candidate will utilize a considerable amount of leadership skills, creativity, initiative, and independent judgment to lead product development teams and collaborate with cross functional teams to deliver an integrated and balanced subsystem.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience as DRE or equivalent in new product development with execution of all vehicle development cycles for systems and subsystems (concept through launch).
  • Proficient in engineering operations, Specification and release processes, and best practices
  • Experience at all phases of a vehicle program
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate others
  • Strong interpersonal skills enabling ability to work effectively with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams
  • Extensive level of analytical ability where problems are complex and difficult.
  • Demonstrated ability of ‘dealing with ambiguity’ to enable timely decision making.
  • Excellent program management skills
  • Working knowledge of global regulations
  • Excellent physics based and methodical problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with overseas automotive OEM's and suppliers
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis.
  • A company vehicle will only be provided for this role by passing the Motor Vehicle Report review.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with plastics part development a plus (injection molding, compression molding)
  • Experience with Mechatronics systems a plus
  • Master of Science or other Advanced Degree
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification and Red X Journeyman
  • Experience in fixture design and product validation
  • Experience in budget plan development

Responsibilities

  • Lead subsystem development and cross-functional integration with system architects, program teams, studio, and manufacturing to deliver robust, balanced solutions.
  • Partner closely with Body Manufacturing, Assembly, VDDV/CAE, SQ, and Purchasing to align design, dimensional, packaging, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Drive subsystem dimensional strategy, GD&T alignment, and interface integration to ensure quality and manufacturability.
  • Lead Product Development Teams (PDTs) to execute all VDP deliverables on time, including design releases, sourcing, tooling, validation, and PPAP.
  • Co-lead system design, peer, and DRBTR reviews to ensure design fidelity, best practice compliance, and issue resolution.
  • Develop and execute validation, fit, and capability strategies utilizing CAE, VSM, matching builds, and slow builds.
  • Lead trade studies and decision-making based on cost, mass, timing, DFMEA, and quality targets.
  • Enable high-quality, on time launches by driving root cause resolution of dimensional and integration issues.
  • Apply robust engineering and continuous improvement tools (DFSS, OPEX) to optimize design and execution.
