About The Position

The Closer/Funder is responsible for the preparation of the closing document package, coordination of closing with the closing agent, Realtors, borrowers, sellers, and mortgage loan officer (MLO), and funding of the loan, all in line with company, program, and investor requirements. In addition, the Closer/Funder checks/audits for various regulatory, agency, and investor compliance; prepares loans for in-house boarding and maintenance; and assists with post-closing and processing activities as needed. The individual must be able to work under aggressive time constraints, develop proficiency with loan industry software, and have a strong record of dependability and attendance. The incumbent must be comfortable acting as a point of contact with borrowers, realtors, title companies, third parties, and BankWest staff. Must have the ability to remain calm and courteous when dealing with impending deadlines. The position requires an ability to prepare a high volume of work without errors and good communication skills, particularly in writing and over the phone. Must be highly organized, enjoy multi-tasking, and have the ability to change priorities quickly as time-sensitive needs arise. The ability to meet crucial deadlines is expected. This position is very deadline-driven, must have great attention to detail and strong follow-up skills.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years' experience in a related field.
  • General knowledge and understanding of banking terminology, procedures, and regulations.
  • Strong math and calculation skills.
  • Strong computer aptitude and typing skills.
  • Ability to work dependently and/or independently, under pressure, meet deadlines, and adjust work schedules as needed to complete job responsibilities.
  • Ability to organize and handle multiple responsibilities while delivering quality external and/or internal Customer Service.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with external and/or internal customers.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn regulatory requirements pertinent to performance of specified duties in job description.
  • Knowledge of banking terminology and procedures.
  • Knowledge of BankWest products and services.
  • Ability to skillfully use a variety of application software, learn computer programs, and comprehend the program output.
  • Adherence to Federal Privacy Standards, as well as BankWest requirements for electronic communication and Social Engineering standards.
  • Expectation to participate directly or indirectly with increasing BankWest's presence in their markets as appropriate, as BankWest is a 'Sales Organization'.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing correspondent, construction, and internal residential loan closing packages according to company, investor, federal, and local requirements.
  • Managing the closing pipeline to meet deadlines through effective prioritization and time management.
  • Coordinating pre-closing verifications.
  • Performing final regulatory review and testing prior to closing using various software tests and third-party verifications.
  • Coordinating loan closing details, including potential contact with title companies, closing agents, lenders, dealers, Realtors, sellers, and borrowers.
  • Acting as the final contact with the Settlement Agent and scheduling loan funding.
  • Negotiating issues that arise during the closing process.
  • Assisting with file delivery and post-closing resolution for secondary market sale.
  • Escalating issues not resolvable by the Mortgage Post Closing Specialist to the Closer or Mortgage Operations Manager.
  • Serving as back-up to the Mortgage Post Closing Specialist for various functions.
  • Assisting in developing and implementing mortgage production practices and procedures to bring consistency, maximize efficiency, and prevent compliance errors in the Mortgage Division.
  • Assisting in creating and maintaining departmental SOPs.
  • Building and maintaining closing standards.
  • Developing checklists and workflow for the closing department.
  • Serving as administrator for closing software.
  • Working as a team with departmental counterparts on planning and implementing assigned projects and products.
  • Participating on various committees and project teams as deemed appropriate by management.
  • Attending and actively participating in organization and job-specific training offered, and Quality Service programs.
  • Adhering to all applicable Policies and Procedures of the BankWest organization.
  • Community involvement is strongly encouraged.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
