About The Position

9fin is seeking an ambitious, relationship-driven data journalist to maintain its coverage of the CLO market, based in New York. This is a front-line analytical role focused on a sophisticated and fast-moving area of credit. The successful candidate will be embedded in the market, engaging daily with CLO market participants and producing data-backed, analytical content. Success hinges on the ability to work with large datasets, cultivate strong relationships, and translate insights into trend coverage. The role requires someone energized by meeting people, comfortable engaging senior market participants, and motivated by data analysis. Collaboration, generosity with colleagues, and a positive team contribution are also highly valued. The role is based in New York with opportunities for travel to industry conferences.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in financial journalism.
  • Comfortable handling large datasets to draw conclusions.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerBI.
  • A natural ability to connect with a wide range of sophisticated market participants.
  • Confidence in engaging senior investors, bankers, and asset managers.
  • Endlessly curious, self-motivated, and passionate about doing a good job.
  • Able to maintain a deep network of sources, stay on top of story pipeline, and meet deadlines.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas simply.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with structured credit or debt capital markets is a strong positive but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Identify trends by speaking to the market and backing findings with data.
  • Write feature articles on emerging trends in CLO issuance, pricing, structuring, and investor activity, producing monthly long-form data trend pieces.
  • Monitor markets, expand knowledge of the wider debt market, and collaborate with colleagues across verticals (distressed debt, leveraged finance, private credit).
  • Maintain databases, working with the CLO data team to source private information and contribute to new dataset expansions.
  • Generate ideas and deliver clear, concise reporting under deadline pressure.
