About The Position

Pacific Counseling Center (PCC), a center of Fresno Pacific University, provides high-quality counseling services to individuals and families through partnerships with schools, community organizations, and Fresno Pacific University. We are committed to expanding access to mental health care while preparing the next generation of skilled clinicians through meaningful clinical training experiences. Our supervised training program is designed for pre-licensed clinicians seeking quality supervision, diverse clinical experience, and opportunities to grow toward independent licensure. Clinicians serve individuals and families across a variety of settings, including schools, community agencies, university partnerships, and telehealth services. Because PCC is a supervised training program, pre-licensed clinicians provide services under the license and clinical supervision of an assigned supervisor. Clinicians may provide services only through their assigned Pacific Counseling Center placement(s) and under the direction of their assigned clinical supervisor. Providing clinical services outside the authorization of the assigned clinical supervisor or outside of an assigned PCC placement is not permitted and may result in removal from the program. Work schedules and clinical placements vary based on partner-site needs. Clinicians working in school-based settings generally follow the academic calendar, including school holidays and breaks. Requirements

Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Clinical Counseling, Clinical Social Work, or a comparable graduate degree program.
Current registration in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), or graduation from a qualifying master’s program with registration in progress.
Completion of graduate-level coursework in Cross-Cultural/Multicultural Counseling, Law and Ethics, Family Therapy, Child Therapy, Suicide Risk Assessment and Intervention, and Telehealth (or equivalent CEU coursework), or enrollment in an approved remediation plan to complete these requirements.
Proof of current professional liability insurance.
Successful completion of a LiveScan background check as part of the interview and hiring process.
Successful completion of a DMV background check and approval as a qualified driver for Fresno Pacific University, as required.
Knowledge of mental health treatment approaches and evidence-informed practices for addressing mental health concerns.
Knowledge of and adherence to applicable laws, ethical standards, professional organization guidelines, and California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requirements.
Ability to think creatively and apply effective strategies to respond to client and program needs.

Responsibilities

Operate within the scope of practice established for Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Clinical Counseling, Clinical Social Work, or Clinical Psychology, based on graduate education, training, and applicable professional standards.
Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, ethical standards, and professional requirements established by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) and applicable professional organizations, including CAMFT, AAMFT, and APA.
Maintain compliance with BBS requirements related to clinical practice, supervision, documentation, BBS-related logs and records, and completion of required continuing education (CEU) requirements.
Provide direct and indirect psychotherapy services, with an expectation of approximately 70% direct services and 30% indirect services.
Participate in weekly clinical supervision and consultation for the number of hours required by the BBS. This may include providing session recordings for training and supervisory review, as appropriate and consistent with program requirements.
Practice under the direction, authorization, and clinical supervision of the assigned supervisor. Pre-licensed clinicians may provide clinical services only through their assigned Pacific Counseling Center placement(s) and may not provide services outside the authorized PCC placement or supervisory structure. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in removal from the program.
Provide services through in-person and telehealth formats based on assigned placement, client needs, and program requirements.
Provide therapy services during at least one evening shift per week.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including required progress notes, records, and other documentation as assigned.
Maintain accurate time entry and billing information, and participate in file audits as scheduled.
Participate in program and organizational activities, including monthly administrative meetings, agency training sessions provided at least three times per year, scheduled coaching sessions, and at least three promotional or community engagement events annually.
Respond to emails and phone calls promptly during business hours on assigned workdays.
Clinical placements are assigned by the Program Director based on partner-site needs and available opportunities.
Clinician level is determined based on accumulated supervised hours in accordance with California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requirements.
