About The Position

Universal Health Services (UHS) is a leading provider of hospital and healthcare services, recognized by Fortune and Forbes. Headquartered in King of Prussia, PA, UHS operates numerous facilities across the US and UK. Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC) is a 100-bed psychiatric hospital offering acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for adults. VBPC is seeking a Clinician RN to provide telephonic or face-to-face mental health crisis triage, assessment, intervention, and disposition. This role involves answering a crisis line, gathering patient information, performing assessments, and determining appropriate clinical dispositions, including referrals to outpatient care or other community resources. The candidate will schedule face-to-face assessments for urgent or emergent cases and refer non-system appropriate calls to other providers.

Requirements

  • Requires a degree and licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • One or more years of direct or related mental health counseling experience
  • Must possess knowledge of current psychiatric diagnoses and treatment terminology
  • Completed biopsychosocial patient assessments, including conducting formal mental status evaluation and patient medical history
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge of third party payers, including managed care companies to develop and clinically appropriate crisis intervention and disposition plan
  • Basic typing and computer literacy

  • Prefer mental health crisis counseling experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides telephonic or face-to-face mental health crisis triage, assessment, intervention and disposition at Assessment and Referral Centers or "on-site" at general hospital emergency room, therapist's or physician's office.
  • Answers the telephone crisis line and obtains all pertinent demographic, clinical, marketing and third party information to determine the appropriateness of face-to-face telephonic assessment and clinical disposition of the caller.
  • Seeks supervision when caller requests information/data unfamiliar to counselor.
  • Provides clinically appropriate resolution to those calls evaluated as information only.
  • Provides clinically appropriate telephonic disposition to those clients whose calls are evaluated as routine; referring to outpatient care as appropriate.
  • Schedules face-to-face clinical assessments within twenty-four (24) hours if the call is evaluated as urgent or emergent.
  • Refers calls not appropriate for care within the UHS systems matrix to other clinically appropriate providers and/or community resources.
