About The Position

This position involves providing clinical services to clients, including assessments, treatment planning, individual and group therapy, and case management. The role requires working within a multi-disciplinary team, maintaining client records, and adhering to ethical and regulatory standards. Specific duties and expectations vary slightly between Clinician I, Clinician II, and Licensed Clinician roles, with licensed clinicians also responsible for supervising unlicensed staff.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in a related field, MFT or MSW licensed waivered (BBS registered).
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and liability insurance when driving a personal vehicle on BHS business.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of community behavioral treatment, including interviewing, assessment, individual, family, and group counseling.
  • Knowledge of general psychiatric emergency intervention, diagnosis, and brief and long-term therapy methods.
  • Knowledge of principles of adult and child psychology.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to Title 22, 42CFR, clients’ rights, voluntary or involuntary treatment and commitment for treatment, including criteria for commitment.
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies providing support services for the mentally ill and/or persons with co-occurring disorders.
  • Knowledge of medical record-keeping and documentation, including client charting.
  • Knowledge of Medi-Cal regulations and documentation for medical necessity.
  • Vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for performance of job duties.
  • Able to sit at a desk, use a keyboard, write, and physically perform other job duties.
  • Able to move about the facility to observe clients and staff.
  • Must possess a current registration to practice as an Associate Clinical Social Worker, or a Marriage, Family and Child Intern in the State of California (BBS registered) (for Clinician II).
  • At least 2 years of experience providing clinician experience (for Clinician II).
  • Must possess and maintain a license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage, Family and Child Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of California (for Licensed Clinician).
  • Bilingual abilities may be required within certain BHS programs (for Licensed Clinician).

Responsibilities

  • Performs culturally competent comprehensive assessments, identifies appropriate diagnoses, and develops treatment plans within the required timeframe.
  • Provides guidance, consultation, and approval of assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes (for licensed clinicians supervising unlicensed staff).
  • Maintains detailed client record documentation, including progress notes and treatment reviews.
  • Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, providing clinical input related to client diagnosis and recommended treatment plans.
  • Consults with staff to review client cases and medication issues.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in substance abuse and co-occurring disorder treatment.
  • Is sensitive and responsive to cultural differences among the agency's client population.
  • May carry a caseload and conduct individual/group sessions, including family education groups.
  • Regularly meets and maintains the agency's expected productivity goals.
  • Makes and monitors appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Supports the orientation and training of staff and interns.
  • Actively participates in continuous quality improvement efforts and peer review functions.
  • Consults with and serves as a liaison with community agencies, school personnel, parents, and other programs and services to evaluate community health needs and services; advocates and educates on the needs of specific clients.
  • Makes presentations to community and other groups outside the facility.
  • Completes all intake documentation, including required LA County DMH forms (for Clinician II).
  • Conducts individual and group psychotherapy sessions (for Clinician II).
  • Assures that outcomes are completed and submitted timely and accurately (for Clinician II).
  • Provides transportation for clients as required (for Clinician II).
  • Maintains a current license with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) (for Licensed Clinicians).
  • Assesses client mental status and makes accurate diagnoses and effective client care coordination plans (for Clinician II).
  • Analyzes crisis situations promptly and concisely to facilitate appropriate treatment and referrals.
  • Conducts mental health education and training programs (for Clinician II).
  • Evaluates clients for medication referrals (for Clinician II).
  • Presents client history and behavioral impressions for further review (for Clinician II).
  • Protects clients’ rights and provides advocacy for all clients.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other therapists, county staff, referral agencies, physicians, and the public.
  • Utilizes the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for performing diagnoses (for Clinician II).
  • Enters client notes within the required timeframe (for Clinician II).
  • Conducts a comprehensive American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessment and/or an Initial Triage Assessments (ITA) and participates in treatment plan development (for Licensed Clinician).
