We're seeking a RN Clinician Charge for the Cardiovascular Stepdown department. This role is responsible for being a capable charge nurse with broad experience in patient care and a sound understanding of a particular patient population. The RN will routinely use acquired knowledge, theory, research, and experience to respond to changes in clinical situations. This professional will apply the Synergy Model for Care in practice, personalizing care for each patient/family, and serving as a resource to colleagues and a strong advocate for them. The role involves planning, coordinating, and directing daily operations of a specific shift on a clinical unit, supervising staff, and facilitating communication with physicians and administrators for optimal patient and family-centered care. The Clinician Charge is recognized as a change agent, leading efforts to strengthen organizational systems, adept at creative problem-solving, negotiating conflict, and collaborating with others. They demonstrate insight, judgment, and clinically sound risk-taking, role-modeling expert communication skills and foresight regarding the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes. This individual is recognized as an expert clinician and leader within their specialty, completing necessary reports, identifying the need for revision and evaluating the effectiveness of operational forms, and providing and coordinating unit resources for optimal patient outcomes. They role-model time management skills, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and stay informed of innovative clinical trends. The Clinician Charge functions as a formal leader, mentoring other Registered Nurses in the role and functions of Charge Nurse, leading and coordinating team behavior, and fostering leadership skills in others. They provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff regarding policies, scheduling, assignments, organizational skills, and daily operations, and complete performance reviews with Nurse Manager input. The role incorporates the Synergy model for care in nurse/patient assignments. Operational Management and Compliance includes evaluating resource use and cost containment, coordinating unit staffing, identifying and initiating tests of change for managerial problems, and actively participating in regulatory agency reviews. They assist in administrative activities such as budget planning, cost containment, coordinating staffing schedules, and communicating concerns to the Nurse Manager. They evaluate policy impact on operations, support administrative decisions, facilitate daily operational issues, and ensure compliance with educational requirements. The Clinician Charge exhibits a desire to understand others' points of view, demonstrates effective communication skills, and takes a leadership role in building an environment of open communication. They serve as an arbitrator in conflict resolution among nursing staff, take appropriate action to correct unacceptable communication/behavior, and counsel employees. They are aware of and support unit and colleague needs, empower and advocate for nurses, and take appropriate action to address customer concerns and complaints. They address escalated patient issues, referring them to the Nurse Manager or Patient Advocate when unable to resolve, and monitor issues and their resolution. This role challenges and shapes systems to achieve best possible outcomes, implements innovative approaches, and identifies, recognizes, and responds to the needs of unit staff, ensuring they have the resources to meet patient and family needs. They identify, initiate, and collaborate on educational programs, develop management/leadership focused in-service training, demonstrate current evidence-based practice, and disseminate information. They question management practices related to research.
