About The Position

We're seeking a Clinician Charge for the Cardiology Stepdown department. This role is responsible for being a capable clinician charge with broad experience in patient care and a sound understanding of a particular patient population. The Clinician Charge routinely uses acquired knowledge, theory, research, and experience to respond to changes in clinical situations. This RN professional applies the Synergy Model for Care in practice, personalizes care for each patient/family, and serves as a resource to colleagues while being a strong advocate for them. The role involves planning, coordinating, and directing daily operations of a specific shift on a clinical unit, supervising staff, and facilitating communication with physicians and administrators for optimal patient and family-centered care. The Clinician Charge is recognized as a change agent, adept at creative problem-solving, negotiating conflict, and collaborating with others, demonstrating insight, judgment, and clinically sound risk-taking. They role model expert communication and time management skills, demonstrate foresight regarding the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes, and are recognized as an expert clinician and leader within their specialty. This position also involves completing reports, identifying the need for operational form revisions, providing and coordinating unit resources, ensuring policy compliance, staying informed of clinical trends, functioning as charge nurse, mentoring other Registered Nurses, leading team behavior, and providing direction to less experienced staff. Additionally, the role includes completing performance reviews, incorporating the Synergy model for care in assignments, evaluating resource use and cost containment, coordinating unit staffing, initiating tests of change for managerial problems, participating in regulatory agency reviews, assisting with administrative activities like budget planning and cost containment, evaluating policy impacts, supporting administrative decisions, ensuring compliance with educational requirements, and fostering an environment of open communication. The Clinician Charge serves as an arbitrator in conflict resolution, takes action to correct unacceptable behavior, counsels employees, supports unit and colleague needs, empowers and advocates for nurses, addresses customer concerns, handles escalated patient issues, monitors issues and their resolution, and challenges/shapes systems for optimal outcomes. They implement innovative approaches, identify and provide needed educational programs, and develop management/leadership focused in-service training. The role requires demonstrating current evidence-based practice and questioning management practices related to research, as well as achieving points and contact hours as defined in the PLAN (clinical lattice) point system to maintain the position.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • 1 year of recent post-graduation nursing experience.
  • A valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS may be required for certain departments, post hire
  • Additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty
  • If completing virtual care activities that may include multi-state practice, an active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire.
  • Employees in role prior to 11/09/2025 will have until their next renewal date to achieve compact status.
  • Exceptions: Emory Warner Robins, Perry and affiliated Physician Groups locations that have an Associate's Degree in Nursing prior to 3/29/2026, will be grandfathered into this role as having met the education requirements.
