About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Technologist Trainee to join our team in Phoenix, AZ. This role involves receiving and evaluating specimens for testing, determining work priorities, and working with various instrument and software platforms. The trainee will adhere to SOPs, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation, monitor quality control, and evaluate data for accuracy. The position requires delivering accurate patient care while maintaining efficiency and a proactive approach to assay and instrument performance. Responsibilities also include preparing reagents, standards, and quality controls, and potentially participating in the training of others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • Proficient with computers
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Nice To Haves

  • Current or prior Labcorp experience
  • ASCP or AMT certification

Responsibilities

  • Receive specimens for testing; evaluate specimens and test orders; determine priority of work and batches to maintain acceptable turn-around-time; recognize unacceptable and unusual specimens and handle appropriately.
  • Work with a variety of instrument and software platforms including Hamilton/Nimbus automated extraction instruments, Immunoassay chemistry analyzers, LCMS Instrumentation, and Data Review through a cloud-based software system.
  • Adhere to SOPs while performing extractions and analysis on client samples, quality control samples and proficiency samples.
  • Maintain, calibrate and clean instrumentation; perform scheduled/routine maintenance and critical function checks; recognize significant changes in instrument function; troubleshoot as indicated.
  • Follow quality control rules; monitor controls for error detection and take corrective action; maintain laboratory records, maintenance logs, quality control logs, reagent and standard logs, and worksheets.
  • Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy (Immunoassay and LCMS); recognize and correct errors and unusual results (individual patient as well as paired sets of patients); interpret results to produce a final report; use GDP in all documentation.
  • Deliver accurate high quality patient care while maintaining efficiency.
  • Follow a proactive approach to assay performance and instrument performance to prevent downtime and delay of reporting results to clients and patients.
  • Evaluate, use and/or prepare laboratory reagents, standards and quality controls according to established department standard operating procedures and established timeframes.
  • Participate in the instruction and training of others; demonstrate and/or explain the testing process to others or observe the testing process as performed by others.
