The Clinical Technologist I, certified performs lab tests, and processes on patient samples or products which involves operating analytical instruments, compiling and verifying the accuracy of clinical data and complying with the laboratory QA/QC program. This role will work in our laboratory within the Fred Hutch Clinic at Overlake Medical Center, 1135 116th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004. This position will be full-time Monday-Friday, and the shift will be 7am-3:30pm or 9am-5:30pm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or a Bachelor's degree and equivalent education and training as defined in 42CFR493.1489(b)(3).
  • Must meet the CLIA education requirements for a high complexity testing.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist/Histocompatibility Technologist or equivalent certification with certified maintenance (as required by individual certification) of continuing education through ASCP, AMT, AAB, ABHI or equivalent agency.
  • Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Manual computation skills
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a high pressure, time-sensitive, and complex health care environment.
  • Ability to identify and triage issues appropriately.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Must be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen to perform this role

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer at least 1 year of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing in hematology and/or chemistry.
  • Meets the CLIA training and experience requirements for a high complexity general supervisor in hematology and/or chemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Handles biological specimens and products; performs clinical assays and lab processes by following the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Operates analytical instruments, compiles and analyzes clinical data, verifies its accuracy, and reports results.
  • Performs laboratory quality controls measurements.
  • Prepares reagents and materials for clinical procedures.
  • Enters patient and specimen information and results in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Performs regular maintenance and troubleshooting on analytical instruments.
