About The Position

This exciting new position builds upon Fortune’s decades-long partnership with the NYC Department of Corrections (DOC) and NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Services to offer vital services aimed at preventing substance misuse among persons in custody (PICs) on Rikers Island and facilitating connections to treatment services and other community supports post-release. Reporting to the Senior Director of Behavioral Health, the On-Site Clinical Supervisor (LCSW) will be responsible for the administrative oversight and clinical supervision of up to four part-time LMSW Assessors who will be conducting comprehensive assessments of individuals within the Rikers general population to confirm they meet the criteria for the 2010e Mental Health Report. The individual in this position will also work closely with the Substance Misuse Program Manager and CASAC Supervisors (2) to ensure assessments are complete prior to key court dates, with the ability to present recommendations in court when needed. The LCSW will also inform collaboration with DOC and CHS staff members, as well as other Fortune staff regarding service provision or internal service referrals.

Requirements

  • LCSW required
  • Ability to secure NYC DOC volunteer services clearance
  • Minimum of two years overall clinical supervision required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office computer applications, especially Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Strong verbal, writing, listening and negotiating skills
  • Ability to take initiative, be dependable, resourceful and able to pay keen attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities at the same time in a time-sensitive manner

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in dealing with either psychiatric issues, trauma, or incarceration desired
  • Familiar with barriers that previously incarcerated individuals face in reentry and how to navigate them

Responsibilities

  • Supervise/mentor/support a team of four part-time LMSW Assessors, ensuring accurate documentation of assessments to meet criteria for 2010e Mental Health Report.
  • Train/supervise LMSWs on how to interview participants utilizing Evidence-Based screening tools to complete initial assessment and comprehensive psychosocial evaluation;
  • Review the LMSWs’ service plans, which will include wrap-around, person-centered services identified;
  • Provide documentation with recommendations for ATI consideration and/or for specialized housing placement when appropriate;
  • Case conference with Fortune’s on-island team, CHS and DOC, on high-risk individuals;
  • Create, prepare, and submit tracking sheets for monitoring of completed, scheduled, and upcoming assessments;
  • Collaborate with Program Manager and in-court peer support specialists to support scheduled court appearances;
  • Collaborate on the development and/or revision of group services and associated workflows;
  • Collaborate with Fortune on-island staff and offer recommendations for post-release service plans;
  • Assist with internal and external referrals for substance use, mental health, and care management programs;
  • Engage in case conferences with internal and external providers;
  • Provide brief interventions and short-term support;
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed;
  • Maintain detailed case records, with all case notes completed within the regulatory timeframe;
  • Maintain on-going clinical communication with supervisor;
  • Participate in training opportunities, on-site staff meetings, and other agency events;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
